Some exciting changes are coming to Mont Alto State Park, the little Franklin County gem that is Pennsylvania's oldest state park. PPFF received a grant  from the Franklin County IMPACT! program for playground improvements and restoration of the CCC picnic pavilion shown in this Gannett photo by Brian Whipkey, Gannett's Pennsylvania Outdoor columnist. Funding through Franklin County’s IMPACT! Grant Program, made possible through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was available to nonprofit organizations to support local recovery efforts in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Franklin County Commissioners distributed grants for 127 projects across Franklin County.

Here's a terrific story from LNP/Lancaster Online on Eagle Scout candidate Michael Thompson and his unusual project. We're used to reading about Eagle candidates building everything from hiking trails to amphitheater benches to educational signs to tree plantings but organizing a scuba expedition to pull a one-ton dumpster and a trailer from a river is most definitely a first! 

We are reminded at this time of year especially to be grateful for good health, good friends and family, and the opportunity to share ways to be helpful to our fellow occupants of this big blue marble.
