Now that more people are starting to resume travel, it's time to reevaluate our travel habits. When booking your next flight, consider flying non-stop when possible. We understand in some cases non-stop isn't an option but when you can or when someone you know is traveling - encourage them to fly direct. Why? Statistics show that about 25 percent of airplane emissions come from landing and taking off!
In addition, if you don't already, consider flying Economy Class. Business Class can be responsible for almost three times as many emissions as Economy Class and First Class can result in nine times more carbon emissions than Economy Class. The reason is simple: When flying Economy Class more carbon emissions are shared among more passengers.
For a non-stop, round trip flight from LAX to JFK, you can save 2,400 pounds of CO2 by choosing Economy over Business and you can save 5,200 pounds of CO2 by choosing Economy over First. That’s like saving 122 gallons of gasoline by giving up Business Class or 265 gallons of gasoline by giving up First Class!
