A quick heads-up before we get into this week’s tips and resources. At the end of this month I’m going to be taking a break from these newsletters over the summer, to recharge and think of new ideas 😅
This week’s design lesson
This is a lesson from the Tiny Design Lessons ebook.
Design for when there’s no initial data
Screenshots on your sales page can make your app look exciting and useful, as they probably use dummy data. However a new user won’t have any data when they log in – so they could end up with an uninspiring blank space in their dashboard or interface.
Design an empty state that doesn’t look empty – use humour and personality to promote engagement or display some initial placeholder data.
This one is a curated selection of ’beautiful, classy, punk, professional, incomplete, weird typefaces’ that have open source licenses – making them free to use and modify as you need, in your projects.
Design quote of the week
“Recognizing the need is the primary condition for design.”
