E.C. Bell

Good morning!

This is the first official email to everyone who has signed up as a subscriber. So, happy birthday to the E.C. Bell Newsletter!

I bet you’re wondering what you can expect from me every month. Well, I write, so I’ll be giving you updates on the newest books in the Marie Jenner Mystery series, and I’ll let you know about sales etc. If I write any other stories or books, I’ll let you know.

If I decide to venture outside for a writing event, I’ll let you know where I’ll be and what I’ll be doing.

If I read a good book or watch a good movie or TV show—it’ll be here. If find a good old timey recipe, I’ll share it with you. (Banana bread has been my latest passion, because we don’t eat bananas fast enough, apparently.) Interesting research? I’ll mention it. And you’ll probably have to deal with dog and back yard updates, because, hey, my dogs! My yard!

What I've been doing

My wonderful editor (hi Rhonda!) and I have finished the edits for Haunting the Haunted, Book 6 of the Marie Jenner Mystery series. This is the one that answers the question “So what ever happened to the poltergeists on the ball diamond?” It will be released it into the wild in October 2019.

That means a cover reveal in a couple of months, so watch for that.

Oh, and I’ve been working on my yard. We finally got rain, so it almost looks like I know what I’m doing out there. The dog, as usual, is having all sorts of fun when the thunderstorms stop.

Where I'll be

August 9-11 I’ll be at When Words Collide, in Calgary.

This all genre literary festival is a perennial favourite. Lots of great panels, and a chance to see your favourite authors, up close and in person. This con is 95% full, so if you’re interested, sign up REALLY soon.

Otherwise, I’ll be hanging around my house, playing with my dogs and trying new and interesting ways to control crab grass. Oh, and writing. Always writing!

The banana bread recipe

Found this recipe tucked in a recipe book my grandmother left to me. Hand written, so I’m assuming it’s hers. (Thanks Granny.)

  • 3-4 really ripe bananas (peeled and mashed)
  • 6 tbsp butter (room temp or melted and cooled)
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1!/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • pinch salt

(I also add raisins,  but that’s just me. Others add walnuts. Or chocolate chips. I say experiment.)

Oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9X5 inch loaf pan

Mix first 4 ingredients, well. Add next two ingredients, mix again. In second bowl (sorry) sift dry ingredients (plus raisins if you’re crazy like I am) and add to wet. Stir until JUST blended. In the pan, in the oven, bake for 50-60 minutes. Test with toothpick. Should come out clean. Cool for 20 minutes, turn out, and enjoy!

And that's it!

First official newsletter is in the books! Enjoy the warm weather, and I’ll talk to you in August.
