Competition entries
After discussion with Wayne plus Michael and Wayne also doing some research we have discovered a one off and unique event ,,, a Dutchman is wrong .. or putting it in in diplomatic terms … not as right as he thought he was. We have therefore come to the conclusion that for all competition entries we resort back to the original 1920 1080 size submissions.
Wayne has supplied the following link if you wish to
https://helpx.adobe.com/au/photoshop/kb/advanced-cropping-resizing-resampling-photoshop.html
He also wrote the following in case you missed it
While the information specifically uses Photoshop as its reference point, the physics and science behind the article are universal. Only the first two sections are really relevant to us for displaying our pics on screen, but the rest is interesting for those who print. As our competition entries are only displayed on screen and not printed, the issue of resolution is determined by the quality of the screen and has nothing to do with file size. If we were displaying prints, it would be a different issue.
Obviously, the better-quality screen/higher pixel density the screen has will result in a better viewing experience, and that seems to be the single determining factor. It looks likely that changing the size of our submitted files will have zero impact on the displayed image, and only bloat the file directory
Sticks and Stones
I have organised a hopefully permanent display in “Sticks and Stones” – the coffee shop over the road from the Hub
Everyone who wants to, will have the opportunity to display their work (2-3 pictures) for one month, but keep in mind this is a new initiative and there may be changes in the future to how we do things.
I have made a few assumptions as at time the owner was very busy but enthusiastic to have our work displayed. She has already advertised our current display and we have received nothing but positive feedback. I felt that Thursday 2pm (or Friday 2pm) was the best time to change exhibits over as these were the times the owner had arranged for our first go. We will adjust things as we go – the most important factor is what the owner expects of us and that you may need to take into account that we do not disrupt her business and customers when doing your display. Price is up to you, but you must use our logo and one of the cards showing name, price etc that was sent to you. If you do not have this, please email me panallanann@gmail.com and I’ll send you a copy of both samples we are using.
It is also up to the individuals involved in both months to organise changeover and pick up arrangements i.e., Dec 8 people must coordinate with the Jan 5 when making the changeover arrangements. If you can’t pick up your exhibition on that date, please ask someone else or someone in the next group to do so.
As stated earlier there are bound to be teething problems but so far all is going well. Do not feel compelled to participate, if its only a few we will have a much longer rotation time etc.
Pricing – up to you, size not too big – probably around A2 – and if you can have a theme that suits the local area I suggest you use that. I also suggest that you bring at least 3 display items and then work out which combination are most suitable for your group.
Remember – exhibition is not far away and this will be an excellent way of sorting out your portfolio.
I saw the owner on the 28th again and she now prefers a Monday or Tuesday - Thursdays have become extremely busy all of a sudden. Unless you let me know I have changed the turnover dates to 2pm the Monday following the initial ones in the above email:-
Mon - Dec 12 2pm change over:- Wayne, Steven Williams, Pauline van
Mon -Jan 9 change over : Trish, Isabel, Linda
Mon- Feb 6: change over: Michael, Nola, Eric
However, early in the mornings is also a good time so, if those dates don't suit, if you can make an arrangement amongst yourself for a different time. You only have to do so with one of the next group and replace their exhibit and let the rest know you've done that. Ellen the owner is very reasonable. She will also try to advertise our displays every time there is a changeover.
The Hub
We have organised a meeting with Gabby and Hannah so we can sort out some of my concerns and hopefully resolve all issues that hinder a smooth running of all events
