Roxie's Writing Corner: I'm in a hell of my own making. |

A friend who reads a lot of science articles once told me that human brains imagine their future selves as strangers. That is, the same parts of the brain involved in imagining what you'll be doing this time tomorrow are the same parts that are involved in imagining Marshall, the weird guy across the street who throws walnuts at squirrels. The same isn't true of our past selves, apparently.
Basically, the woman who stayed up too late to binge-watch the first three episodes of Our Flag Means Death? That's definitely me.
The woman who's going to go to bed at 10pm sharp tomorrow night? Never heard of her.
In other words, since our future selves are totally different people from us, as far as our brains are concerned, they will definitely do things like diligently input seven books' worth of events into a timeline. Does it matter that my past self hasn't done this since 2019, and has thus far kept track of all this information using post-it notes, random notebook pages, and the power of her brain?
No! Future Roxie is going to be perfectly, effortlessly organized.
Anyway, I've been trying to update the Sprucevale Universe timeline. It's not done yet. I'm simultaneously trying to untangle Javier's timeline, since he pops up in so many of the books I've already written, and I am... not currently impressed with Past Roxie. What was she thinking when she blithely wrote that someone lived in a place for X number of years and graduated in Y year and met the other Wildwood guys two years after Z?
Past Roxie did not write any of this down in the series bible that she technically has, so Current Roxie is doing this whole thing on a wing and a prayer.
In other words: when you're reading The Three Night Stand next year and you find a timeline discrepancy?
No, you didn't.
Love,
Roxie
P.S. Yes, this is a contributing factor in so many of the Wildwood couples being childfree. I can't track pregnancy lengths and kid ages and how many and who has which ones. I can't do it. Please go hug your favorite authors with second-generation series, because they're doing AMAZING.
P.P.S. I have no idea whether it's true that your brain processes your future self the same way it processes strangers; someone told me that once and it sounded right so I ran with it.

FREE spooky* novella: Dirty Sweet! |
|
|
|
“She was a sexy nun?” I say, finally remembering the girl we're talking about.
“Well, she had the head thing, but also a short skirt and her boobs were basically out,” Logan says, then raises his eyebrows, like he’s amused. “What did you think she was?”
I look away and scrunch my face, because now I feel pretty dumb.
“I thought she was, like... a conceptual penguin, or something,” I admit.

Happy spooky season! A couple years ago I wrote a short, fluffy, spicy novella about two friends in college who hook up at a Halloween party. It was originally for an anthology, but now it's free for everyone who subscribes to my newsletter! (That's you!)
This one's light, cute, fluffy, hot, fun, fluffy, spicy, and did I mention fluffy? And free?
And now, a quick FAQ about Dirty Sweet.
The heroine is named Zelda. Don't you have a cat named Zelda?
Yes. Zelda the Cat does not in any way endorse the existence or actions of Zelda the Romance Heroine, but she probably would if she could read.
Does this tie into any of your other books?
Not at all! The original anthology, now lost to the sands of time, had a shared world, so I think there are still a few references in Dirty Sweet to that, but otherwise, it's a complete standalone.
Do you have any other holiday novellas that you'd like to give us for free?
Great question! Redneck Santa Saves Christmas is a Loveless/Wildwood universe novella that delivers on its title, and I've got another (Christmas Eve with KXBZ) that I'll hopefully get up by November or so.
Does Dirty Sweet have a playlist?
It sure does! Most of it takes place at a Halloween party, so it's got a playlist of 2016 club bangers (and a couple songs from Rocky Horror Picture Show).
How did you and your husband start dating?
We went to college together, where we were best friends until we accidentally made out at a Halloween party.
*actually, not that spooky.

Reign is getting a special edition! |
|
|
|
Kostya and Hazel are getting the royal treatment! (Sorry, that's the best joke I could come up with.) Reign is one of the books in The Last Chapter's November royalty-themed subscription box, which means this beautiful special-edition cover and a bookmark and an art print (!!!) and other stuff!
It's very pretty and I'm very excited for this - they also sent me a picture of the interior and that's ALSO gorgeous (and, honestly, way fancier than the regular paperback). The other authors in the box are Nana Malone, Jodi Ellen Malpas, Vivian Wood (aka one of my author besties), and Geneva Lee, and that's officially all the information I've got about this.
I'll probably give away a couple copies of the special edition in my facebook group (The Roxettes) and over on Instagram, so watch those spaces if you're looking for one and don't want to buy the whole box! Though I might also hoard them all, so, no promises from me.
(PS: If you're new here and you've never read Reign, why not start now? It's about the stoic, rule-following crown price of a former Soviet country who falls so hard for the daughter of the American diplomat.)

The Gossip and the Grump |

He's the last man I should've picked for a one night stand...
|
|
|
|
|
|
See that guy over there? The insanely tall, broad-shouldered, dark-haired, scowling, “I don’t drink coffee” suit?
Surprise! He’s the new owner of my family’s mountain café.
The café that has been my life purpose since I was born in the kitchen there almost thirty years ago.
The café that he’s planning to completely gut and renovate for revenge against my family.
He’s also the funny, charming, irresistible guy I spilled all of my secrets to last week.
During the hottest one-night stand of my life.
As my dog would say, woof me.
Secrets and gossip keep getting me in trouble, and I swore I was done with both, but now my family’s café is on the line.
It’s time to use every last trick I know to uncover every secret this man is hiding.
I don’t care how much I liked him our first night together, or how much I keep seeing glimpses of that man beneath his gruff exterior.
One of us has to go.
It won’t be me.
The Gossip & The Grump is a one night stand to enemies to lovers romcom featuring a woman desperately trying to unlearn everything she knows about everyone, a grumpy misfit hiding a secret heart of gold, an unfortunate incident with powdered cheese, and the world’s biggest lap puppy. It stands alone, but you wouldn’t go wrong to read The Worst Wedding Date first.

I may have a “Sex & Love” advice column, but I also have a big, scandalous secret. I’ve never, actually, had my own Big O. Not even close. And DIY ain’t cutting it.
My readers think I have it all: glamour, brains, and an enviable sex life. But behind my fancy words, I live in fear of being found out. Losing it all… without a happy ending.
Enter my dude-roommate and his hot friends. They get wind of my dilemma and scheme together to help me cross the finish line. Sometimes it takes a village. Or in my case, three dreamy, devoted men. But nothing in my life is ever simple. I may have started out looking for my Big O, but thanks to them, I have a whole alphabet of new desires.
This slow-burn why choose romance features a plucky main character with multiple love interests. If you like to indulge your secret bad-girl side, this is the book for you.

Boy, I'm Yours |
|
|
|
There's something about Colorado I can't escape. It calls me back, time and time again, promising that everything I've ever wanted lay amidst those Rocky Mountains and beneath that moonlit sky.
I had no idea what that something was... until I laid eyes on Dustin McMurray. Six feet of charming man with broad shoulders, kissable lips, and deep green eyes that see right through me.
The only problem is my Colorado cowboy isn't interested in more than one night.
Even when fate leaves me stranded at his ranch, he resists. He has no problem giving me his body and lighting mine on fire in return, but guards his heart like a fortress. In his eyes, it's better to be alone from the start than to wind up even lonelier in the end.
I know without a doubt that we belong together. I just need to convince him that no matter how hard he fights it...
That boy is mine.
