Principal’s Comments
I am looking forward to tomorrow’s annual Cross Country event. The Juniors will race from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by the Middles starting at 1:30 PM, and then the Senior races. Although Cross Country may not be every child’s favoritefavourite activity, it offers a great opportunity for students to develop and strive to achieve personal goals. They can see how their efforts lead to improvement, engage in healthy competition, and feel pride in representing their house and cheering on their school mates.
We are also excited about BPOD (Belmont Primary Obstacle Dash) happening next Friday, May 30th. Thank you to all of the children and families who have signed up to help with fundraising. We have an awesome afternoon planned with all of the children involved - All children can have a go!
For both of these events, we would love to see families come along to support the children. Please allow your child to stay until the end of the event to support others and help ensure the smooth running of the events.
The next few weeks will be busy academically for students and teachers, who will be completing mid-year assessments. These assessments are used by teachers to track progress, identify learning that needs further reinforcement, and determine the next learning steps for children. With recent curriculum changes, some assessment practices and reporting expectations are in the process of changing. Our mid-year reading, writing, and mathematics reporting will look different to reflect aspects of these refreshed curriculum areas. We expect to receive more clarity from the Ministry of Education later this year outlining what reporting will look like from 2026.
Parents will also have an opportunity to discuss their child’s learning with the classroom teacher at parent/teacher interviews. School will be closed for students on Monday, June 23rd, for teachers to hold these interviews.
I enjoyed meeting with the PTA last week to discuss the upcoming events in which they are able to support the school. The next event is the school Movie Night, which is always popular with the kids. Helping the PTA is a great way to connect with other parents and significantly impact what we can achieve as a school. I know they could use a few extra people to call on. This group is led by Georgina Batchelor (Chairperson), Chloe Bourne (Treasurer), and Emma Martin (Secretary). To get involved, contact Georgina, Chloe, or Emma, or simply attend the next meeting to learn more.
As always, you are welcome to join our assembly tomorrow morning, where Room 17 will be presenting the class item.
Thanks for your continued support.
