Join Chief Kevin Peacey from Klahoose First Nation, Feddie Louie from Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, and Mariah Charleson from Tahltan Band Council as they share stories about what has worked, what has been challenging, and what they have learned during the implementation process.

BC First Nation Leaders, Band Administrators, and Managers.
Description:
This Management Training Academy on Human Resources Management will be delivered once a week over a 3 week period. Day 1 will cover HR foundational topics including Strategic HR Planning and Succession Planning that provides formal processes for building capacity to meet current and future human resource needs. Day 2 will focus on the legal aspects of HR, including the day-to-day legal obligations as an employer, as well as recent changes to legislation due to COVID-19, followed by a talk on promoting health and wellness among staff during the pandemic. Lastly, day 3 will cover the importance of establishing and maintaining effective workplace relationships and managing performance effectively.

In November, FNPSS collaborated with the Institute of Public Administration of Canada to bring together a panel of speakers on Indigenous responses to Covid-19. This hour-long panel, features Manny Jules, Chief Commissioner, First Nations Tax Commission, Chief Harvey McLeod from Upper Nicola Band, and Chris Lewis, Council Member, Squamish Nation Council. The panel is moderated by FNPSS Director, Jehan Casey and topics included the impact of Covid-19 in First Nation communities, navigating inter-governmental relations, and the requirements for economic recovery in the future. The VIP Initiative is a collaborative effort by IPAC and FNPSS to match volunteers with First Nations in BC who need assistance with short term projects. There are also over 250 Indigenous economic development corporations, which are community-owned firms designed to generate wealth and jobs for community members. As of 2016, Indigenous Peoples contribute over $30 billion annually to Canada’s GDP.
