SET-Nav Policy Briefing on Innovation Systems and the SET Plan

In this policy briefing, Charlie Wilson (UEA) uses a systemic perspective on energy innovation to inform the EU's Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan. The briefing contains five high-level recommendations each of which is supported by a series of specific research insights. These insights are set out in a longer policy report which provides extensive examples, arguments, and links to relevant research literature.

SET-Nav Stakeholder Kick-Off Event

28 September 2016, Brussels, Belgium

The SET-Nav Stakeholder kick-off event "Revitalizing the SET-Plan: The Role of Innovation in Transforming the Energy System" was held on the 28 September 2016 at CEPS premises in Brussels, Belgium. This half-day event was organized in order to introduce SET-Nav and the planned activities to a targeted audience. The event generated interest among the targeted audience right from the beginning and gave interested actors the unique opportunity to bring in their views and guide the analytical processes within SET-Nav. Input from key stakeholders concerning the development of pathways was also collected.

SET-Nav Modeling Workshop

24-25 November 2016, Trondheim, Norway

The SET-Nav Modeling workshop "Top-Down Bottom-Up Hybrid Modeling" in Trondheim, Norway will be held on the 24 - 25 of November 2016. 

The structure of the 2-day workshop will be:

  • 3h methods of hybrid modeling in complementarity framework.
  • 3h hands-on exercises of hybrid modeling in complementarity framework.
  •  2-3h hybrid modeling in the TIMES-MARKAL model family.
  •  Half a day applications of hybrid modeling.

Expert Scenario Development Workshop

29 November 2016, Berlin, Germany

DIW Berlin – as part of the SET-Nav network – would like to invite you to an expert workshop entitled, From ‘Known Unknowns’ to ‘Unknown Unknowns’: Uncovering Critical Uncertainties for the World Energy Future, to improve its modeling and forecasting capabilities. The workshop aims at a better understanding of external trends, forces, and factors that might affect the global energy transition in the coming decades.

The event will in a first part aim at uncovering key assumptions, relevant drivers and relationships characterizing the world energy sector (morning session), based on which several storylines will then be developed (afternoon session).
