"New Year, New Me? Maybe Not."
The New Year is often a time when we reflect on our shortcomings and resolve to do better. But is there a better way? Former UUCS intern John Monroe reflects on the possibility of self-acceptance, rooted in the experience of community, as the basis for personal and spiritual growth.

Religious Education
Children in RE will discuss the awe that comes with the feeling of being connected to others, and explore this idea of community through learning about Hanukkah.

Message from Rev. Aileen

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. As we begin the new year, let us ponder the year ahead. What would we like to accomplish? Where do we see ourselves heading? It is a good time to develop goals and see what we can accomplish. But we must always remember to be gentle with ourselves. We are, after all, Human Beings not Human Doings. Remember to also make room for reflection and renewal.

Help Popal Family Move

In August of 2016, our congregation, along with the Fairfax UU Congregation, agreed to co-sponsor a family from Afghanistan in their resettlement in the U.S. The family consisted of a mother with two children. They settled in Reston, and with financial support from both congregations, personal assistance in handling daily activities, improving English language, transportation, etc., the family is now managing on their own. They are moving to a new apartment and the coordinator for the Fairfax Refugee Committee is requesting volunteers to help with the moving.
