There's no hibernating for TreeProject through winter - another big edition! Not one, but two highlight articles this month so let's get straight into it...

2022 Tree Planting sites

What we're looking at here, courtesy of Peter - our database guru, is a geographical representation of our 2022 tree planting sites! The blue bubbles represent seedling orders and the size of the bubbles equates to the size of the order.

You guessed it - it's our mission to grow those blue bubbles prolifically!

With just a few days left to donate before the end of June, you have the opportunity to DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT to increase the bubbles!

Planting day footage - Yarra Downs

This drone footage was created on June 14^th when a team of Accenture employees volunteered for a TreeProject planting day at Yarra Downs in Healesville.

The water channel on Yarra Downs meets the Picanniny Creek; the water channel is fed from the Yarra River via the Badger Creek. As you can see from the footage, this area is prone to flooding. After fencing this area to stop livestock, we have planted indigenous, riparian species to avoid silt build-up and to help with soil stability. TreeProject and Yarra Ranges Council have over the years planted and created a revegetation plan to fill in the bare areas. There is now evidence of the natural sedges growing back in abundance and the vegetation corridors have small birds and other habitat. Thanks to TreeProject and Yarra Ranges Council, this area is being restored and is becoming a safe area for wildlife.

Great feedback from extremely happy Landholders - "We are over the moon that, the water channel we started with Kurt (TreeProject's past President) 4 years ago, has been filled in, it looks great!"

TreeProject Talk by David Smith

Big thanks to David, who presented on behalf of TreeProject, to The Australian Plant Society. So impressed with his talk and passion for TreeProject, they offered to compensate him, which he very kindly requested be donated to TreeProject.

Thanks David, for spreading the TreeProject message about the good work we are doing for the environment - and for having done so consistently for so many years! David attended the very first TreeProject tree planting day back in 1989... and has continued to support us tremendously since then. Thanks again David, you're a legend.

Out in the Paddocks

Thanks to Jenny Chivers and Louise Harvey, and more recently Belinda McPhee and Lidija Veljanovski, who have taken charge and been supervising the 11 planting days (up until 26th) to date this season

As you can imagine a lot goes on behind the scenes. From updating First Aid accreditations and initial site, seedling and risk assessments prior to planting, to planting day logistics and volunteer safety...and the list goes on - it's a huge job. Well done ladies, so appreciate your incredible efforts out in the paddock, and to Susi and Jess for so expertly coordinating the 46 planting days.

Habitat Conservation & Management Course

The Habitat Conservation and Management Course, through our friends at the Darebin Creek Management Committee, is back. We thought it may be of interest - the course is suited for everyone, from new conservation volunteers to experienced land management practitioners, looking to refresh and extend their knowledge and networks.
