April is almost over. This month has been interesting to say the least. Work, weddings, writing, editing, health issues. I feel like it is all dropping on me like a ton of bricks.
But that isn't so bad. I had this weird dream a few weeks ago. I was singing at some sort of club or resort because people were encouraging me to do so. It was awesome to be on stage and singing and the crowd loved it.
I woke up and a book was born. It only took me two and a half weeks, but I finished writing the stand-alone romantic suspense novel, Rocky Shores. I have to admit, once I started the story I was driven to finish. I'll tell you why.
A little random fact about me, I am what the writing world calls a pantster. I write by the seat of my pants. What this means in real time, is I am reading the story for the first time, it's just in my head. As I write, I have sort of an idea of what is going to happen, but things can change in an instant. I can be going along all happy like and suddenly a character that I thought was a good guy becomes a bad guy, or vice versa. Sometimes I suddenly call out to my roommate to share some exciting discovery I just made about a character or scene. LOL.
With that understanding, Rocky Shores is a romantic suspense. Yeah, I was pretty anxious to figure out how it was all going to play out in the end. I finished it last night, and I'm so glad of how things turned out.
This whole process is why I love writing so much...and hate editing so much. In the editing process lots of things change. Sometimes I have to give up whole scenes that caused me stress during the writing process. Many times my characters gain a depth that I never have with the first draft. But getting the story out of my head is why I love it!
So below is my recommendation for reading. I love K. M. Shea. Her stuff is totally amazing. I had been putting off reading this series, King Arthur and Her Knights, because it was seven books, but finally, I decided to plunge in. Plunge I did. This series was AMAZING!!! I read all seven books in like five days. The stories made me laugh, cry, get mad, cheer, want to scream and shout, and made me yearn for true love. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend reading this series. It will be worth the time and the emotional investment!!! - Melanie Mason
When a modern young woman named Britt is pulled by a magical summons back through time she finds herself smack in the middle of the schemes of the surprisingly young and handsome wizard Merlin.
Britt has no interest in the throne, and she definitely doesn't want to pretend she is the legendary King Arthur, but Merline has some bad news. The real Arthur has run off, and the legendary sword in the stone has chosen Britt to take his place.
But Britt quickly learns that life in ancient Britain isn't safe.
The kingdom is fragmented, with enemies on all sides, and there’s little chance for mercy if her real identity and gender is exposed. Britt will soon find herself fighting for her life again and again on behalf of her people and the knights who serve her.
And then there’s Merlin. Focused on his goal to unite Britain, he’s oblivious of Britt’s growing feelings for him. Or so she thinks. But what future can they have in a world that only sees them as monarch and confidant?
