Trying new stuff View in browser

Hey homeschoolers,

I'm trying something new today - I've wanted to get a weekly email started for a while and decided it was time to stop procrastinating.

I'm going to try a mix of updates about us and the blog, interesting resources, sales, and finish up with a quote to think about.

Let me know what you think - is it great? Is there something else you'd like to see included? Or should I ditch this idea and go back to the drawing board?

I write this for YOU so make sure you tell me what you want.

OK, let's get started.

Last week I spent many tedious hours completing a nursing grad year application, and the kids spent a lot of time with Lego.

I'd noticed the play becoming pretty repetitive, so I found a few ideas on Pinterest and suggested them (some online strewing?). Thankfully some ideas took off and I got to listen to different conversations!

The book pictured is How to be Great at Science, Technology, and Engineering. It's one of the best general science books I've seen - it has every necessary concept in it, in a clear and easy to understand way.

Our silkworms are cocooning, finally, in our ad-hoc silkworm capsule hotel. Note to self: 200 is far too many to look after!

Finally, we discovered that the Math-U-See blocks are perfect for Balance Maths problems. I love resources that aren't specific.

OK, onto random homeschooling stuff.

1. Sadly, we finished reading aloud the Unwind Dystology by Neal Shusterman last week. If you have older children who are interested in dystopian fiction I highly recommend it, we were all obsessed with it. Any recommendations for teen-suitable read-alouds for us?

2. Living Book Timelines are having a sale on their complete Story of the World bundle. We already have two timelines, but we could fit another, right?

3. The 45% off MoneyTime sale ends September 20 - get all the details here. I've already heard great feedback from people who joined last week.

4. I loved this take on Year 12 scores from The Feed SBS. I'm so glad we don't have to rely on that system.

Finally, here's my quote of the week. I remind myself of this every time something we're doing isn't working - as long as we're working toward our goals it really doesn't matter how we get there.

Happy homeschooling, and don't forget to let me know what you think - would you like to get something like this every week?

Kelly.
