DER’s “Did You Know?” Spotlight
With the new political administration beginning in the US, researchers should understand that funding may look different in the coming months and years. As the new administration roll out their goals and policies, researchers need to pay close attention to how their individual focused research ambitions fit into these administration policy targets. Did you know that there are extremely knowledgeable MSU Faculty and staff who have extensive experience navigating multiple administration transitions? These informed individuals may help you avoid pitfalls and assist you in interpreting where research funding is headed in the foreseeable future.
Within the College of Engineering, we have strong Department Chairs who have extensive experience securing research funding through federal, state, and local sources. Additionally, Dr. John Verboncoeur (Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies) johnv@egr.msu.edu, closely monitors shifts in federal spending and attends regular meetings where new funding focuses are shared.
In addition to contacts within the College of Engineering, other MSU experts are available to help navigate shifts in funding. Individuals such as Mary Anne Walker (Senior Specialist with MSU Office of the VP for Research and Innovation) mawalker@msu.edu, who has years of experience writing and facilitating international research, and Brice Nelson (Director of Corporate Partnerships with MSU Business Connect) bnelson@msu.edu, who serves as MSU’s front door for corporations and enables two-way strategic communications and planning for business customers, are available to help you make informed choices when pursuing funding and developing your research proposals.
