Strive for Five Holiday Recruiting Tips
- Party Plans! If you're able to plan a Unit Holiday Party safely, this is a great way to invite new folks to check out your group. Have an adult (or older Scout) dress as Frosty the Snowman, Elsa from Frozen or Buddy the Elf and host a hot chocolate and cookie bar! Create a Winter Wonderland outside and have snowball fights, sledding races, snow art and treats. Plan your Join Scouting Event and register it here along with requesting flyers to promote it!
- Invite Families to Join a Movement! Today's families want to belong to something bigger than themselves. Parents are teaching their children the importance of serving their community, and what better program to reinforce that than Scouting? Plan a service project each season and have your Scouts bring a buddy. Be sure each family has extra peer to peer recruitment cards on hand. During the holiday season you can collect food for your local soup kitchen, host a coat drive for kids, sing carols at a nursing home or a home for children.
- Share Holiday Greetings! Plan out a series of social media posts relating to the holiday season & Scouting. Share how your group is helping the community, provide information about local tree lightings, invite your Facebook following to build Scout-themed snow people and encourage them to post pictures on your page. Check out this Social Media Playbook.
- Don't Be Shy. Take pictures at your community events and share them with your local papers and media outlets. Sometimes all they want is a great photo with a simple caption but you can submit press releases too.
- Recruit Leaders Too. As new families join, be sure they know where help is needed. Once you get to know them, gently ask in person if they're willing to help with "x". Start small and help them succeed.
