Today is predicted to be a bit rainy here in the Laurel Highlands but the remainder of this holiday weekend looks promising. May you find hope and healing in the outdoors even as our serenity and sense of safety is shaken once again. For Bill and me, there is no need to travel; the close to home Great Allegheny Passage should do us just fine for now.

Thanks to everyone who sent the first of our series of messages to the legislature in support of American Rescue Plan funding. I'll be at Laurel Hill State Park tomorrow morning for the dedication at Camp Tree Army in honor of the late CCC historian John Eastlake. Longtime PPFF members will recall that John used to write a regular column for the newsletter on the CCC in Pennsylvania. He and these looks to the past are missed!

PPFF, Friends of RB Winter, and our partners at the Susquehanna River Trail Association will be at the Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo at Shikellamy State Park on June 4 (next Saturday) from 10-4. Stop by and pick up some literature, ask questions, or shop at the PPFF mobile store for items at special event prices!

Congratulations to the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace, recognized with their Preservation Award for Project Excellence by neighbors to the south at the Maryland Historical Trust. The Friends were recognized for their partnership with the Catoctin Furnace Historical Society in designing their Iron Road driving brochure. In furtherance to the moon trees question of a couple of weeks ago, sad to say I am told that the King of Prussia sycamore at Lockheed Martin has died and that the clone meant to replace it is also not expected to survive.
