March 2019
New Logo - More Inspiration, Resources and Support

2018 was a great first year!  It has brought us a lot of opportunities to share with our fellow transplant families here in Arizona and across the country.  Be on the lookout for many more opportunities to make your voice known and to learn more about transplant topics.  We bring in 2019 with our beautiful new logo design.  Thank you Brittany Johnson for submitting the winning proposal!

We want to wish a belated happy heart month to all of our heart transplant families.  We know February is near and dear to them.  Also, excited to have celebrated National Donor Day on February 14th.

March

We have so much to celebrate in March.  We would like to start with a big happy National Kidney Month to all of our kidney transplant families.

Social Worker's Month

Celebrated each March, National Professional Social Work Month is an opportunity for social workers across the country to turn the spotlight on the profession and highlight the important contributions they make to society.  We love our social workers!

Child Life Month

March is the start of Child Life month! We transplant families love our child life specialists. Child life specialists are the fun, energetic and happy people in hospitals. They provide toys, bubbles, games, books and a whole list of other super enjoyable things for your child to use while staying in the hospital.

March 3rd is Caregivers Appreciation Day

As transplant families we serve as caregiver to our children. It is not just your typical parenting gig and can be an all consuming task where the caregiver is exhausted and stretched thin to be caregiver to the rest of the household because they are all nurse, therapist and parent.  Just know that we see the everyday miracles you are performing.  You are amazing.

March 30th is National Doctor's Day

National Doctor’s Day is a holiday which is celebrated on March 30th in the United States. It is a holiday that honors physicians for the work they do for their patients, the communities they work in and for society as a whole. It is their hard work and devotion that keeps all of us healthy and this day thanks them for doing that for us and our loved ones.

Want your voice heard on national transplant policy?

We need your input to shape Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network(OPTN) policies.   OPTN/UNOS public comment is now open through March 22, 2019. As a member of the transplant community, you are encouraged to post your thoughts on the OPTN website during the public comment period, as both individual comments are considered by the sponsoring committee during the policy development process. There are now ten proposals offered, with a recent addition that is focused on MELD exception scores during the National Liver Review Board (NLRB) transition.  Also of note is the Pediatric Transition Guidance document that helps centers develop a pathway for transplant kids moving into adult care.

During the public comment period, UNOS offers and records national webinars to educate members on the proposals. For information on these webinars, click here
