I’ve been running a Top Table Role Playing campaign for several months, involving a group of people from our world magically transported to a fantasy world. The main characters are a history professor, a veterinarian, and an ex-army mechanic. After some initial confusion, they began exploring the world only to learn that another ‘traveller’ has corrupted the world, setting up an empire styled on ancient Rome.
They’ve encountered the ruins of a cursed city and figured out how to restore it by lifting the curse. It’s a work in progress, with five separate adventures, but the more they accomplish, the more the city is restored to its former glory, including the inhabitants.
Players were initially surprised to find hordes of zombies walking the streets, but even more so when they discovered they could return the zombies back to the people they once used to be! As a result, they’ve had to change their tactics, making the game far more entertaining than I would have suspected.

The Kingdom of Carlingen, named after the city that bears the same name, lies south of the wilderness kingdom of Zaran and just to the east of Braymoor.
Known as the city of opportunity, people travel there from all over the Continent, seeking their fortunes, but few succeed. The main draw of the place is its lawless nature and relative closeness to the wild lands of Zaran, said to house unimaginable wealth. Many adventurers travel north, seeking fortune, but the few who return are broken in spirit, refusing to talk of what they discovered.
In recent years, there has been an influx of another type—Therengians looking for the reborn kingdom that is said to be east of the Petty Kingdoms. Unfortunately, some individuals take advantage of these poor souls, taking their money and making grandiose promises but leaving them stranded and living in squalor.

The Tradition of Magic in Eiddenwerthe
|
|
|
|
At the beginning of the Heir to the Crown series, magic was waning. With no way to detect those who had the potential to wield magic, taking on an apprentice was often a hit-or-miss proposition. By the time Revi Bloom became the Royal Life Mage of Merceria, he was, according to official records, the only mage left in the kingdom.
Unbeknownst to the Crown, Albreda had unlocked the secret of Earth Magic in the Whitewood. So, too, had Aldus Hearn, who had begun his studies at the Great Library of Kendros in Shrewesdale.
To the west, in Weldwyn, the tradition thrived, but losing many of their mages in war dealt them a heavy blow. Now that the war is over they, along with their Mercerian allies, have begun training a new generation of mages, leading to what will hopefully be a golden age of magic.

Awesome!
Absolutely in love with this series.
At first I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but here I am after binging this series over the course of a few weeks. Can’t wait to continue reading when the next book comes out.

I’ve begun working on Torrent (The Frozen Flame: Book Seven) by expanding on its outline. Over the next few days, I’ll continue this process until each chapter has two or three scenes detailed out.
This is also the point where I finalize who the major characters will be, as well as decide whether or not I’m going to bring back some from previous stories. (or even other series!)
It’s going well so far, and I suspect I’ll begin writing the first chapter before the weekend.

A sword careened off Charlaine's helmet as her own weapon took a man in the chest. He staggered back, mesmerized by the blood staining his shirt, then slumped to the deck. An axe crashed into Charlaine's forearm, denting her armour and knocking the blade from her hand. She withdrew, seeking some space to draw her dagger, but then her foot slipped on the bloodied deck, sending her crashing to her knees.
A shape pushed past her, followed by another as the Temple Knights of Saint Agnes fought their way onto the enemy vessel. Charlaine looked around, but the fighting was over. Three men lay dead and another five wounded, but they held no desire to continue, for they’d dropped their weapons.
"That was nice and quick," came Danica's voice. "And not a single injury to our own knights." She looked down at Charlaine. "You're not wounded, are you?"
"Only my pride."
Danica helped her to her feet. "You know, we have knights to do all the fighting. You didn't need to be the first across."
"I was trying to set an example."
"Of what? Being impetuous?"
Charlaine smiled. "You know, I would take that as an insult from anyone else."

A shadow hangs over Midgard. Malevolent forces stir in Asgard. Out of the chaos will rise… a grandmother?
Barbara Callaghan assumed she’d spend her retirement peacefully, playing bingo and babysitting her grandson. Not fighting giants and wrangling unruly gods.
But when she finds herself the victim of a digital scam, trapped as a barbarian brawler in a game world generated from old Earth mythologies, she knows she must either adapt or perish. And Barbara has never been a quitter.
To survive this harsh rendering of Midgard, Barbara must win the patronage of one of the Asgardian gods. She seeks out Asgard, only to discover a world in turmoil, with powerful gods at each other’s throats, rogue giants causing chaos at every turn, and dwarven craftsmen at war with one another.
A world that needs the practical, no-nonsense touch of a grandmother—and the occasional brute strength of a barbarian.

She tries to save the world ... but can she save herself?
Ulka trained beside the Sigma, but unlike them, her powers remained dormant. Until a ballistic weapon finally awakened her hidden abilities and flipped her world upside down.
As Ulka struggled with her newfound powers, a Magnetar raced toward earth, causing tides, volcanoes and tremors. The super-humans sent to counter the Magnetar never returned, and Ulka is the world’s last hope.
Even if she succeeds, there’s a much bigger threat lurking in the shadows, waiting to unleash a fate worse than death.
If you like superhero stories with riveting action sequences, you will love this first book in the series.

There is a price attached to every dream...
After twins Genshu Masanori and Genshu Hidekazu witness a kidnapping at the annual Midsummer Festival, they discover the woman taken wasn’t this sorcerer’s first victim, nor will she be the last.
They will break clan laws against warfare if that’s what it takes to bring the missing women home safe.
They will sign their lives away to the prestigious Tsukiko Academy, regardless of the rumours about the Headmaster and the dark secrets harboured within the school grounds.
They will give up the lives they know for a chance to uncover the real reason their family gave up their legacy as wyvern-slayers and swore a vow of peace.
A pact with a mysterious dragon spirit, embracing their future as warriors, and servitude to the Tsukiko Academy is only the beginning.
The twins have one chance to unravel the sorcerer’s sinister plan. If they can’t find him in time, the game he whispers about might be the last anyone ever plays.
