Guyana Elections 2020: Granger wants “bogus votes” removed; Lowenfield Report submitted

Presidential candidate for A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) , David Granger on Friday night announced that his coalition wants the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to subtract fake votes such as those allegedly cast in the names of overseas people.

“We are also committed to ensuring that every legitimate vote is counted but at the same time, we’re committed to removing the illegitimate votes. We are committed to ensuring that bogus votes, that people who were not in the jurisdiction, people who have no form of identification will not be allowed to vote,” President Granger told Benschop Radio.  Continue reading →

Four months ago, Donald Trump’s odds of winning a second term had never looked better. After an easy acquittal in his impeachment trial, his approval rating had reached its highest level in three years, and was approaching the upper-40s range that delivered re-election to George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Unemployment was at a 50-year low, setting him up to take credit for a strong economy. And Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, had won the popular vote in each of the first three Democratic primary contests.

Chinese mining firm to acquire Guyana Goldfields Inc for Cdn$323 million

Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd and Guyana Goldfields Inc (GGI) today announced that they have entered into a binding arrangement agreement  pursuant to which Zijin will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Guyana Goldfields for cash consideration of C$1.85 for each Guyana Common Share, valuing Guyana Goldfields at approximately C$323 million.      Continue reading →

Reopening the economy has often been framed as a partisan issue in the US. But within households, many families are having their own arguments about how lax or strict they should be about the threat of the virus. Is it OK to have friends over? Can we invite Aunt Sally to our birthday party? Can Dad slip away to the golf course? Can Mom get a haircut?

These conflicts reflect two very different mindsets. Some are uneasy about opening up and going against official guidance like wearing masks — better to be safe than sorry, their thinking goes — while others balk at being told what to do, and feel anxious or even angry about constrictions being put in place.        Continue reading →
