Dear Falconers, Associations, and all people associated with Falconry,
This November 16th we celebrate the sixth edition of "World Falconry Day". On this occasion we invite you to celebrate with a common theme regarding falconry. This year we have chosen the slogan: geographically.
"Women Falconers … Wings for Falconry!"
Throughout History and in the most varied countries we find women who, practicing falconry, have contributed to make this noble art even greater. Examples are: Queen Theodelinda of the Lombards (Germany, Ca. 570-628); Astrid Tryggvesdatter (Norway 960/80 -1028); Eleanor of Arborea (Sardinia, 1347-1383); Elisabeth (gen) Isabeau de Baviere (Germany, 1370-1435); Prioress Juliana Berners (England, 1388 -); Mary of Burgundy (Brussels, 1457 – 1482); Mary Queen of Scots (Scotland, 1542 – 1587); Mary of Canterbury (England, 1550 - ); Queen Elisabeth I (England, 1533 – 1603); Queen Christina of Sweden (Sweden, 1632-1654); Queen Sofie Amalie (Denmark and Norway, 1647-1717); Catherine the Great (Russia, 1723- 1796) …
With the 2018 slogan of World Falconry Day we want to value both the historic and the current contribution of women falconers and facilitate the connection of initiatives that are geographically, very distant .
The activities of the WFD mainly take place in the week that includes November 16th, the anniversary of falconry recognition by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
All Individuals, clubs and organizations are welcome (irrespective of membership of the IAF). The only important consideration is that the activity should be designed to develop a good image of falconry at local and global level.
You can download the logo at www.iaf.org If you wish, your activity can be part of the official program of the IAF and subsequently be disseminated internationally. To arrange this, you have to send your proposal to wfd@iaf.org . The members of the IAF WFD working group will evaluate proposals. All selected Activities will be registered on the website of the IAF and can then use the logo of the IAF.
Thank you for helping by sharing this letter to where-ever and who-ever you consider appropriate. You can find updated information both on www.iaf.org and Facebook
Also you can find information about the IAF Women’s Working Group on its Facebook page. wwgiaf@gmail.com
