This coming Saturday 6 November, we are holding our Annual General Meeting at the Farm and we would love to meet our members in person so please join us.
In this edition of E-News, we have more about the Summer Solstice event in December. It's happening in time to do your ethical gift Christmas shopping at the Night Market. You'll find other ideas for gifts too.
As always, there is lots going on with Education and the Summer School Holiday Earth Kids program is taking bookings now. We have Sustainable Living Workshops available in January and February 2022 already, including the next Permaculture Design Course.
You can read the latest from the Sunday Organic Farmers Market and City Farm Nursery too.
Check out the little surprise regarding Bob Mud from Earth Arts.
Thank you for supporting Northey Street City Farm.
From the Management Committee
After another year of the pandemic, we are pleased to say that Northey Street City Farm is managing to keep operating effectively and even to expand its activities.
Despite several more lockdowns, our markets and nursery have kept operating successfully, thanks to the efforts and adaptability of our staff, the cooperation of our stall-holders and the loyalty of our customers. Our education programs and volunteer activities have been somewhat more disrupted but are still operating successfully, as and when permitted.
Two initiatives this year have been the taking back of the Chai Café lease into direct operation by NSCF, and the appointment of a Farming Coordinator to increase production and sale of food at the Farm. Both initiatives are still in their early days, but both are going well.

Northey Street City Farm
16 Victoria St. Windsor
Please bring a plate to share for a pleasant after meeting get together.
The Summer Solstice Christmas Night Market and Circus Cabaret is on Friday 17 December. A great time to enjoy a circus cabaret with Vulcana Circus and folk music by Una Heera. There will be lots of nature play available for the kids and thought provoking workshops.
Come and support local artists and organic food stalls and celebrate the end of year, under the stars. Tickets here.
We are also hosting a Free Fibre Art Flower working bee on Saturday the 4th of December, in order to make nature based decorations for the Summer Solstice. Join us here.
As an essential food service, Northey Street Organic Farmers Market will be open every Sunday throughout the holiday season. Bring a date and try the delicious breakfast options available throughout the market, meet your local organic farmers who bring you certified organic food, and visit the City Farm Nursery to pick up seedlings that you won't find in mainstream centres.
The markets encourage waste free living. So bring your veg bags, tote bags, keep cups and bread bags to support a waste free lifestyle.
With Christmas around the corner, you can order your seafood, lamb and ham, from your certified organic meat farmers. And support small business and local artists who make sustainable products for ethical gift choices. Why not buy a Northey Street City Farm Christmas hamper?
We will be hosting a special Christmas Market on the Summer Solstice on 17 December. A great time to celebrate the end of year, before the borders open.
See you Sunday. Bring the grandparents and the kids!
Thank you for voting for us
Thank you to all of our supporters who voted for the Sunday Northey Street Organic Farmers' Market in this years' 2021 Organic Consumer Choice Awards. Your votes helped us win the Consumers Choice Award for the best Organic Retail Outlet.
It's our absolute pleasure to continue to offer the good folk of Brisbane a place to purchase great organic produce straight from the growers.
Our resident artist, beloved Bob Mud, brings joy every week to scores of kids and their carers through playgroup and on Sunday at the Northey Street Sunday Organic Farmers Market. Bob is passionate about providing kids opportunities to play with nature and learn from this play. Whether that is making a clay sculpture, drawing with charcoal, illustrating with water, or swinging from a tree branch, Bob's earth arts stall provides much joy at the Farm. This year he has been recognised in a Permaculture Calendar as Mr January. The calendars are available in the nursery and are a very thoughtful gift for someone, or treat yourself!
City Farm Nursery is really well stocked with unusual plants and all the regular seasonal herb, veg, fruit, native and medicine plants you would expect. Come in and check out the variety. It's really important this time of year to get your seedlings in, and mulch, so your soil does not dry out. There is a range of mulch and soil improvers at the nursery and you can drive into the car park and load your car easily during the week. City Farm Nursery is open Tuesday to Sunday until 12:30pm. Come in this month and let us show you what would be good to grow in your garden.
