Now that most U.S. states have lifted mask mandates and more companies are returning to work, it might be time to revisit carpooling (especially as gas prices continue to climb!).
According to CoolCalifornia.org, carpooling with just one person to work can save 2,000 pounds of emissions per year. That’s like saving 102 gallons of gas a year!
Other benefits of carpooling include: Being able to use the carpool lane (and hopefully avoid less traffic), reduced stress from the commute, and, of course, reduction in fuel costs (and potentially parking costs as well). To calculate how much you can save on commuting, check out The Rideshare Company’s Commute Cost Calculator.
And for those of you who are still working from home, here’s another reminder to turn off your Zoom camera when possible. According to a study published in the journal Resources, Conservation & Recycling, one hour of videoconferencing emits 150-1,000 grams of carbon dioxide, but leaving your camera off can reduce your footprint by 96%.
