A Career Change

Abe Horrowitz had been a salesman in the garment district all his life, but was getting tired of the constant battles with customers. So he decided to give up his job and become a policeman.

Several months later, a friend asked Abe how he liked his new role.

"Well," Abe replied, "the pay is terrible, the hours are too long, and I’ve gained 10 pounds because of all of these donuts, but the one thing I love is that the customer is always wrong."

Ideas, that help explain how the world works

Pareto Principle: The majority of outcomes are driven by a minority of events.

Sturgeon’s Law: “90% of everything is crap.” The obvious inverse of the Pareto Principle, but hard to accept in practice.

Chief Rabbinate closes all synagogues until further notice

New guidelines to stem coronavirus go into effect Wednesday evening, Chief Rabbinate closes synagogues.

The Chief Rabbinate announced Wednesday afternoon that it is closing all synagogues until further notice, in light of the coronavirus spread.

The Health Ministry has made it clear that the new guidelines will be valid from 17:00 onwards and for seven days.

In a live Facebook video, Defense Minister Naftali Bennett (Yamina) emphasized the importance of following the new guidelines and mentioned that coronavirus remains on surfaces for hours and days on end.

Praising the Israeli public for its general adherence to Health Ministry instructions, Bennett said: "The Israeli public has been remarkable in understanding the vital need to isolate, which is why I have a certain degree of optimism. But we're going to hunker down in the coming days."

"Beware of elevator buttons, ATM buttons, because those are mass contamination surfaces. Use a tissue or the fold in your finger.

"I hope that after Passover we'll be able to open up but that depends on the phase of massive testing."

How can a finite human being be connected to an Infinite G-d

How can finite human beings connect to the INFINITY of a spiritual being?

This is the number one question that must be answered. If we are mortals and die and have no human soul, or if we are part of the infinite universe?

How can human beings connect to each other? How can there be co-operation, collaboration, collective action, families, communities, and finally a nation, without the coercive use of power?

How can we form relationships of trust? How can we redeem the human person from his/her solitude? How can we create collective liberty such that my freedom is not bought at the cost of yours?

The caveman was like an animal. Animals communicate with each other without words, and work on instinct.

Man developed a language. Our holy Bible teaches it was when G-d took the animal like man and put a speaking soul into him.

Words communicate, words bind other beings, words let us communicate the ideas that are not tangible. Love, G-d, cooperation, inventions, everything that is possible comes because of words.

The bible teaches that G-d created the world through words. He spoke and the words became the world.

Words are how the finite being connects to the Infinite being and why our Bible takes using evil words so seriously. It is considered the greatest of sins to use words the wrong way, through false testimony (one of the ten commandments) or through evil speech that once spoken can never be called back (like feathers from a pillow blowing in the wind).

It is essential to our survival as the air that we breathe.

What has happened in today's world that we have little ways of distinguishing in our internet world between truth and lies (sheker in Hebrew). We are exposed to words daily that say black is white and white is black.

The Bible is explainer of what is good and what is evil. The whole idea of good comes from G-d and evil from the Devil. How do we know that family values are good and hedonism is not. Our Bible is the reality that tells us so. And as I have written before, The written Torah is only the Cliff notes to G-d's instructions to us. One must have the Oral Torah (which is today written down in the Talmud) to have the instructions for life.

King Salomon in Ecclesiastes (Kohelet in Hebrew) emphatically proclaims all the actions of man to be inherently "hevel" (a word meaning "vapor" or "breath", but often interpreted as "insubstantial", "vain", or "futile") [...] as the lives of both wise and foolish men end in death

King Salomon clearly endorses wisdom as a means for a well-lived earthly life, he is unable to ascribe eternal meaning to it. In light of this perceived senselessness, he suggests that one should enjoy the simple pleasures of daily life such as eating, drinking, and taking enjoyment in one's work, which are gifts from the hand of God.

The book concludes with the injunction: "Fear God, and keep his commandments; for that is the whole duty of everyone" (12:13).

The Bible therefore teaches us through words how to connect with the Infinite G-d. For Jews it is to do the 613 mitzvahs. For non-Jews the same Bible tells them to follow the 7 (which in reality is much more than just 7-these are headlines for spirituality ) Noahite laws to connect through G-d. The ability of a finite man to become infinite is through the words of the Bible. For this the whole world turns to our teachers in the Bible, to learn how to connect to the Infinite G-d.

Yeshivas Rabbi Akiva - An Overview

Joan Alexandra Molinsky, known professionally as Joan Rivers

Joan Alexandra Molinsky, known professionally as Joan Rivers, was an American comedian, actress, writer, producer, and television host.

She was noted for her often controversial comedic persona—heavily self-deprecating and sharply acerbic, especially towards celebrities and politicians.

I don't excercise. If God had wanted me to bend over, he would have put diamonds on the floor.

I wish I had a twin, so I could know what I'd look like without plastic surgery.

People say that money is not the key to happiness, but I always figured if you have enough money, you can have a key made.

My best birth control now is just to leave the lights on.

I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and six months later you have to start all over again.

The first time I see a jogger smiling, I'll consider it.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is God's gift, that's why we call it the present.

I succeeded by saying what everyone else is thinking.

Don't follow any advice, no matter how good, until you feel as deeply in your spirit as you think in your mind that the counsel is wise

Due to the confusion in Israel that is being caused by the virus, an ancient Segulah to prevent plagues has been uncovered.

In the early writings of Rabbi Shimshon of Ostropol there is found a Segulah against plagues. The Segulah consists of reciting the translation of Onkelos for the passages relating to the travels of the Bnei Yisrael at the end of Sefer Bamidbar. Rabbi Shimshon claims that this is a preventative measure against plagues.

Rabbi Shimshon, who is referred to by the Chida as a “Godly Kabbalist” died al-kiddush Hashem during the Khmelnytsky massacre in 1648. He wrote numerous Kabbalistic works and a Torah commentary known as Nitzotzay Shimshon. His most famous work is the Erev Pesach Letter called ‘Maamar Sod Eztba Elokim’ on the ten Makos, which is another Segulah that assures blessing to those that study it.

These are the new restrictions to take effect on Wednesday evening

The Israeli government approved on Tuesday night emergency regulations to further restrict movement and curb the spread of coronavirus in Israel.

Regulations include further reducing forays into public space, imposing liability on employers, closing non-essential stores, and imposing restrictions on public transport.

The regulations will take effect on Wednesday at 5:00p.m. and will be in effect for a period of seven days.

According to the new emergency regulations, it will not be possible to leave one's place of residence or permanent residence in the public space, other than for one of the following reasons or purposes:

• Employee arrival at work is permitted by regulations.

• Equipping with food, medicines, essential products, and receiving essential services.

• Getting medical service.

• Blood donation.

• Legal proceedings.

• Demonstration.

• Arriving at the Knesset.

• For the treatment of welfare recipients.

• Walks by an individual or persons living in the same place for a short time and up to 100 meters from the place of residence.

• Medical assistance to another person or assistance to a person with difficulty or distress requiring assistance.

• Prayer at an open place, a funeral, a wedding and a Brit, as well as a woman's use of the mikvah, provided that they pre-arranged the time of their arrival.

• Transporting a minor to educational settings for children of essential workers and special frameworks (in accordance with the Public Health Order).

• Transporting a minor, whose parents live separately, from one of his parents to the other parent's home.

• Transporting a minor whose responsible parent is required to leave for a vital need and there is no responsible place of residence for the minor to be kept under supervision.

It was also decided that public transport services would be reduced to around 25% of the existing services, and in accordance with Health Ministry.

Taxi services will be limited to one passenger or an additional escort for medical purposes, with passengers sitting in the back seat with car windows open.

Regulations stipulate that at least 2 meters be maintained between people in public and the workplace. Up to 2 passengers may share an essential vehicle ride. Shuttle services to workplaces are also permitted, subject to restrictions.

In addition, it was stated that an employer has a duty to measure temperatures at the entrance to the workplace. A person with a temperature exceeding 38°C (100.4°F) shall not be admitted.

Alongside this, food delivery services, newspapers, as well as essential home maintenance services, electrical appliances, products, and communications services and medical accessories will be permitted. Online sale with shipping is allowed for all types of products. Residential delivery service shall place deliveries outside the residence.

Businesses may sell food for consumption outside the dining and delivery service only. Pharmacies, optics establishments, or stores that primarily deal with sale of hygiene products will operate subject to maintaining 2 meters between people and preventing crowding, so that customers not be in the store at any time with more than 4 people waiting at an active cash register.

It was established that violating the prohibitions will constitute a criminal offense, which will also allow imposing administrative fine on violators, and also provided for police powers to enforce the relevant provisions.

All emergency Health Ministry regulations as approved by the government will be circulated as soon as possible.

Beyond the said regulations, it was reiterated the common need to obey the rules in order to eradicate the spread of the virus. Populations of 60 or older, with emphasis on the elderly and populations at risk should stay in their homes and not risk going outside.

Just prior to the release of the guidelines, Israel's Chief Rabbinate announced that it is closing all synagogues until further notice, in light of the coronavirus spread.
