  • Update you and your family's wardrobe for free
  • Clear out the clutter
  • Reduce what goes into landfill
  • Bring at least one good quality item free from stains or tears and leave with whatever takes your fancy. This event is for womenswear AND childrenswear

The item or items you bring could be clothing, hats, gloves, bags, footwear - and be of a quality you would be happy to receive yourself. Think about bits that maybe no longer fit, were a gift that wasn't quite right or a piece that just is not for you anymore!

    7. Home from Hospital - how can volunteers and the voluntary sector help?

We know that getting people home from hospital when it’s best for them and not bouncing back or going to an acute hospital unnecessarily, is a key priority nationally and locally across both health and care. Volunteers and the voluntary sector already play a key role in supporting this, but it could be developed further.

The NHS long term plan also states that staff, patients and volunteers benefit from well-designed volunteering initiatives. Community Action Network, Dorset Community Action and Volunteer Centre Dorset are jointly leading a piece of work with our NHS and Council colleagues to scope current provision and potential to develop/create new volunteer based support.

This short questionnaire should only take you about 10 mins – and will help us build evidence of need. This survey closes on the 14th February 2020. Thank you for your time and please share with your networks.

    15. Worried about someone with Dementia

Did you know that SGN offer a free installation service for a locking gas cooker valve?

When the valve is locked, the gas supply to the cooker is stopped. This eliminates the risk of the cooker being unintentionally turned on or left on, and gives peace of mind to carers or relatives that the cooker can’t be used when they leave the house or the room. The carer or relative can easily turn the valve on using the key when the cooker is required, enabling the household to continue to use their gas cooker safely.

    16. Update from Uplyme Community Sponsorship

The UCS is ready to start organising volunteers to support the arrival of the Syrian family that will be joining the community soon.

If you have expressed an interest in volunteering and would like to be involved, please go along to the next general meeting in Uplyme Village hall on February the 28th.

All help is welcome whether it is for a one-off activity or a more regular commitment and a wide range of skills and support is needed, both "hands-on" and at an administrative level. The periods before the family arrive and in the early months following their arrival will be the most intensive. The aim is to enable them to manage independently so the degree of support needed will gradually ease off.

We will also be looking for donations to furnish and equip the house.

The meeting will be held on Friday evening, 28th February from 6-8pm at Uplyme Village Hall.

We look forward to seeing you then and once again, our sincere thanks for making this project a reality through such generous support. If you can't get to the meeting but are interested in being involved in any way, please reply to
