Welcome to our newsletter with updates the past month from projects covering education, health, agriculture & environment, and integrated community development. 

The 10^th annual study travel for 1^st year students at all teacher training schools is well underway. Since the first “Learn to Travel, Travel to Learn” period in 2013, 10.000 trainee teachers have had the opportunity to spend between 7 and 12 weeks travelling and learning. Read in the national newspaper about the experience of students from the Teacher Training School ADPP Lunda Sul in Moxico this year (in Portuguese):

Students from 44 schools in Angola joined their peers in the Dominican Republic, Brazila and Argentina in the Via Criativa Project. With road safety a burning issue around the world, the students took part in a drawing competition that both showed what they had been learning as well as their creativity in encouraging others to adhere to road safety rules. More than 10.000 citizens have been vaccinated in Cazenga since 15^th of August, where as part of the Global Vax programme, we are supporting the national vaccination campaign. Read more in the national newspaper (in Portuguese):

A further 260 community health activists were employed this month in the ADPP-led HIV/AIDS and TB project in Benguela and Cuanza Sul, bringing the total to 540. After a thorough application process including a test and an interview, followed by initial training, the activists are now working in different groups to tackle four main areas: awareness raising among adolescent girls and young women; supporting people living with HIV/AIDS to adhere to treatment; encouraging safer behaviour among key at-risk populations and implementing a community-based TB DOT program. Working in close collaboration with the authorities and health services, the project now covers all municipalities in Cuanza Sul and Benguela.

The project "Women and youth building a greener future in Viana" was officially launched at an event at the ADPP Polytechic Zango on the 31st October. The project aims to improve the management of natural resources through the reduction, reuse and recycling of materials and energy, as well as improving the socio-economic conditions of women and young people in the urban districts of Zango and Estalagem. The project also mobilizes women and young people to participate in environmental actions, beautification of streets, and growing of trees.

International Day of the Rural Women took place on the 15^th of October. At ADPP, we find no better way of celebrating rural woman than in continuing to provide literacy education. Together with the Ministry of Education and our financial partners, we are currently providing literacy training to more than 6000 women in 8 provinces.
