When a loved one share with you a good news, ask them, in details, how did it happen so that they can relive the moment.
When a loved one share a good news, such as job promotion, with us, don't just say, "Honey, I am proud of you." That's the bare minimum. Instead, ask them specific questions, such as, "How did that happen? Was it because of the project you did last year?" or "When did you find out? Who gave you the good news? Tell me when, where and how....."
People with good news usually want to tell us EVERYTHING. We want our loved ones to relive the precious, joyous moments and feel proud of themselves. This technique is called active constructive responding and it is quick and easy.
When our loved ones are happy, we, in turn, are also happy. It is a double win!
