Kalispera!
We leave for Greece, tomorrow. EEK!!
This one has turned into a mammoth odyssey which will start with some of the Northern Aegean islands - firstly Ikaria, then Samos and Chios - Johns's fathers' island and the first one we ever visited, so we are excited to return finally.
Then there is a full week in Lefkada, an 8-day road trip on the Mainland including a return to Ioannina and Meteora, and a few days exploring the many wonders of Epirus, including the Zagori region, Vikos Gorge, and Syvota, which is just north of its much bigger and busier neighbour, Parga.
We also have 6 days in Crete ( which is nowhere near enough but we have been before) and are also heading to Portugal, which will be brand new to us. And Athens of course!
Most excitingly I have been asked to be a speaker on a Ritz Carlton Cruise, talking about the destinations, as well as the culture. Super exciting!
In the lead-up to being away for 7 weeks, I've published a couple of comprehensive guides that I feel I've been working on forever. Visiting Greece with Mobility Issues is an important article that addresses an important issue - whether it's for people with dodgy knees, wheelchair-bound people, or anything else. Questions about this come up a lot in the Facebook group, so I'm proud to get this out as a useful resource for many. Despite Greece's reputation for many hills and stairs, it can be enjoyed by everyone!
I also published a new Podcast episode - two in fact, about the Janicek family's two vacations to Greece, and there are some new TikToks and reels on Instagram and Facebook too. Follow along to see daily updates as we move around.
I can't wait to see Terry's friendly face (see image above) at Athens airport after our long flights, and head straight to Rafina for the night at one of our most recommended 'airport hotels' and a seaside taverna for some delicious Calamari and a cold beer - always the first two things I seem to order.
If you are in Greece right now or heading there soon, safe travels to you and yours.
Yammas,
Sandy
As always, don't forget the great planning resources on the website.
