Elon Musk’s Vast Oil Conspiracy Ends With Saudi Billions
Elon Musk schopte jarenlang tegen de olie-industrie aan en wil zich nu uitgerekend met oliegeld van de beurs laten halen. Ik snap het niet meer:
The fossil-fuel industry, just like the media Musk likes to attack, has never been the monolith he made it out to be. Yes, oil companies have at times lobbied to protect their business and pushed the politics of climate change away from stringent regulation. But some of the biggest innovations and sources of funding for climate solutions have also come from Big Oil.
The Phony Numbers Behind California’s Solar Mandate
Keiharde beschuldiging in de Wall Street Journal van bedrog door de energietoezichthouder in Californië:
The Energy Commission is too optimistic about the cost of panels. It assumes the cost was $2.93 a watt in 2016 and will decline 17% by 2020. Yet comprehensive analysis of panel costs by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory estimated the average cost of installed panels to be $4.50 a watt for the 2- to 4-kilowatt systems the policy mandates.
That is $4,000 more than regulators claim for a 2.6-kilowatt model system in the central part of the state, where 20% of new homes are expected to be built. Berkeley Lab further estimates that costs fell a mere 1% between 2015 and 2016, far short of the 4% average annual decline the regulators predict.
Uranium Market Shows Signs of Life
Minder aanbod en een toenemende vraag als gevolg van de bouw van nieuwe kerncentrales leidt tot een herstel van de markt voor uranium:
China’s investments into nuclear reactors and the closure of several uranium mines are spurring the creation of new funds that are betting the uranium market will finally turn. Marcelo Lopez is running a new $30 million uranium investment fund at L2 Capital Partners in Brazil.
Mr. Lopez anticipates a rally in prices. “I’m seeing the biggest opportunity of our lifetime today in the uranium space,” he said.
The recent rise in prices comes in response to supply cuts, which could result in upward pressure for the long term.
