Sup, Nerds!

In case you missed the meeting last night, here's a list of some of the stories we discussed.

Enjoy! :)

Movies:
The Art Life

Artist and filmmaker David Lynch discusses his early life and the events that shaped his outlook on art and the creative process.

The Village

A series of events tests the beliefs of a small isolated countryside village.

Teen Wolf

An ordinary high school student discovers that his family has an unusual pedigree when he finds himself turning into a werewolf.

Books:
Red Island House

Shay is surprised when her husband Senna declares his intention to build her a spectacular dream house on an idyllic beach in the tropical island nation of Madagascar. But the Red Island House casts a spell from the moment she sees it, and before she knows it Shay has become the somewhat reluctant mistress of a sprawling household, caught between her privileged American upbringing and education, and her connection to the continent of her ancestors.

Courage is Calling

Almost every religion, spiritual practice, philosophy, and person grapples with fear. The most repeated phrase in the Bible is "Be not afraid." The ancient Greeks spoke of phobos, panic, and terror. It is natural to feel fear, the Stoics believed, but it cannot rule you. Courage, then, is the ability to rise above fear, to do what's right, to do what's needed, to do what is true.

The Daily Laws

Over the last 22 years, Robert Greene has provided insights into every aspect of being human whether that be getting what you want, understanding others' motivations, mastering your impulses, and recognizing strengths and weaknesses. The Daily Laws distills that wisdom into daily entries.

Shows:
Normal People

Follows Marianne and Connell, from different backgrounds but the same small town in Ireland, as they weave in and out of each other's romantic lives.

Castle

After a serial killer imitates the plots of his novels, successful mystery novelist Richard "Rick" Castle receives permission from the Mayor of New York City to tag along with an NYPD homicide investigation team for research purposes.

The Mentalist

A famous "psychic" outs himself as a fake, and starts working as a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation so he can find "Red John", the madman who killed his wife and daughter.

Podcast:
Cinephile vs Cinephobe

Adnan is joined by Amin Elhassan to discuss Teen Wolf and Jason Hehir to discuss The Last Dance, Andre the Giant, and his new space documentary on Netflix. The Last Duel. Who wouldn't want a moat? Adnan tells us how he really feels about Tom Cruise. Who can spot Chris’ random Ace Ventura reference?
