Hate Speech/Calls for Violence

Politicians

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 5, Vazha Otarashvili, Alliance of Patriots: “Iveria should wake up once and forever and these people [Giga Bokeria and Zura Japaridze] should be stoned to death. They should be put on a donkey backwards and taken around from city to city, from village to village, with spitting at them and stoning them to death.”

Media

Asaval-Dasavali, August 27 – September 2, Dito Chubinidze, journalist: “There was not even one man among these Nazi [referring to the National Movement] – this pack of murderers, betrayers of Georgia and shameful people – who, if not fired a shot at Saakashvili, would at least smash in his face a wine glass or a large ashtray, with which he once broke [businessman] Vakhtang Rcheulishvili’s head and then killed [late PM] Zurab Zhvania.”

Civil society organizations

Asaval-Dasavali, August 27 – September 2, Sandro Bregadze, Georgian March: “Salome Zourabichvili is a person, who has blood on her hands! It is simply shameful to elect as the President the person, who has taken part in overthrowing the legal President and who then applauded his murder! But whom do we see on the other side? Here we have Vashadze, Saakashvili’s slave, Russia’s special service agent! When a voter faces such a choice, he/she has to choose between cow’s and pig’s faeces.”  Akhali Taoba

Racist

Media

Georgia and World, August 8, Beso Barbakadze, author: “About three months ago, a CCTV camera was installed in the center of Brussels to record how many white people would pass by during an hour. The results exceeded all expectations – not a single white person passed by that particular place within an hour… So, let me tell you that in its time, Belgium, France and Holland… shortly speaking, almost entire Europe experienced what we are experiencing right now. It began with freedom of speech, then moved to freedom of drugs, special protection of child rights and eventually, we received Europe that we have today, to say nothing about the World Cup-winning French team, where there are only three French citizens and others are Africans, as well as Antoine Griezmann, who is half Portuguese and half German.”

Xenophobia

Political parties

Asaval-Dasavali, August 20-26, Vazha Otarashvili, Alliance of Patriots: “From Khekordzula Gorge, where the ancient Kingdom of Iberia was founded, the roads towards Didgori and lands around the village of Nichbisi have been completely sold to the Turks, Iranians, Chinese, Arabs and Indians. In the Middle Ages, the Turks and the Iranians were both referred to by the Georgians as “Tatars!” Therefore, I also call all aliens by this name and I will say that all lands from Khekordzula to Kavtiskhevi have been sold to Tatars… As far as I know, the present Georgian government does not let the Georgians from Fereydan buy lands there, whereas ethnic Iranians manage to do it quite easily and they get the green light for it!”

Obieqtivi, news program, August 31, Gigi Maglakelidze, Alliance of Patriots: “This issue [granting residence permits to foreign nationals] should be tightened as much as to make its implementation almost impossible. So, this is a real action rather than to increase their number from 30 000 to 100 000. We should introduce a barrier that will make any attempts to artificially change the demographic picture in Georgia during the nearest decades absolutely impossible.”

Kavkasia, Spektri, August 22, Kakha Kukava, Free Georgia: “One of the terrorists was found in Brussels and they failed to get into that district, Arab district… Should such districts with Turkish and Arab citizens, which do not fall under our jurisdiction, appear in Tbilisi and Batumi, and should we only afterwards slap ourselves in the head? Over 100 000 persons have been granted residence permits. It is a harmful move. Tea Tsulukiani is a woman and I am holding myself back, but our laws make no differentiation; she should be put in jail! It is nothing but a betrayal, when 100 000 persons with 80% from demographically expansionist countries get residence permits.”

Rustavi 2, Kurieri, August 30, Shalva Natelashvili, Labor Party of Georgia: “The world has called us farmers and today they compel our farmers to reject land cultivation and to serve others abroad. Instead, our lands are being grabbed by aliens.”

Media

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 13, Nino Ratishvili, host: “I love all people very much, but do you know what? I am a bit afraid to imagine that I will soon appear in the minority in my yard. I do not want to be in the minority in my homeland, my city. Now, look at these apartments; we, the Georgians, cannot buy them, and the Iranians are buying almost entire buildings. So, it means that these buildings are being built for them… I understand that Iran faces water problem; I understand that Iran faces economic decline, but probably politics and special services also support these persons, and probably our special services and our government also support them.”

Georgia and World, August 15, Beso Barbakadze, journalist: “The presidential race has been announced and the political parties’ thoroughbreds have joined this race. We have serious doubts that we, the Georgians, will again choose an old nag instead of an Arabian horse. But who knows, we have brought so many Arabs to this country that we will probably choose Arabian. Actually, if it continues in the same manner, nobody will soon ask us anything – they will themselves decide whether Arabian is better or Iranian.”

Georgia and World, August 2, Darejan Andriadze, author: “Those aliens, who were fought off by our famous ancestors with swords, have now intruded into Georgia like rooks; they have arrived like tourists, guests, travelers, investors, businesspeople... and now they do not want to return to their native land, because they like our country; they have purchased lands, real estate and are now trying to gain foothold here.”

Rezonansi, August 9, Teo Gudavadze, author: “The Indians and Pakistanis have got involved in outdoor trade. They are selling clothes, shoes and various items outside the Metro stations during evening hours. They have occupied almost all areas adjacent to the Metro stations and even the fines imposed by the Tbilisi Municipality do not frighten them… The Indian and Pakistani merchants, whose share is quite high, have appeared in the streets. They sell their products at lower prices. They mainly sell clothes and shoes and their prices are much lower than the prices of products offered by locals. Considering the price, the products may be smuggled, but nobody controls it… The Pakistani and Indian outdoor merchants mainly sell their items near the Metro stations during night hours, when they know that nobody will control or fine them.”

Civil society organizations

Asaval-Dasavali, August 13-19, Sandro Bregadze, Georgian March: “It is obvious that aliens, among them Turks, Arabs, Iranians and others, have intruded into Batumi and entire Adjara like grasshoppers. The majority of these people are involved in criminal activities under the cover of investors. Yes, Batumi is full of doubtful institutions, like we have on Agmashenebeli Avenue in Tbilisi. Trafficking, involvement of young Georgian girls in prostitution and thousands of nastiness are taking place and unfortunately, the Georgian state closes its eyes on it. Under Aslan Abashidze’s rule, not a single inch of Georgian land had been transferred into the hands of aliens. Today, almost entire Adjara has been sold to the Turks and other aliens.”

Clerics

Asaval-Dasavali, August 6-12, Andria Jagmaidze, archpriest: “Is it marijuana what Georgian society needs now? We have the gravest economic situation; people are already prone to depression and what do we tell them? Go and enjoy yourself with marijuana. Is it a relief? People are intensively arriving from Iran, Turkey, Arab world and there are no data on the property purchased or owned by these people in Georgia! If the Constitutional Court does not revoke its ruling, we will receive a wave of drug tourists!”

Asaval-Dasavali, August 6-12, Davit Isakadze, archpriest: “Stop the Iranization and Turkification of our country; create strict levers to protect our population against demographic expansion!”

Society

Marshalpress, August 6, Anita Rachvelishvili, opera singer: “Centuries ago and until now, we, the Georgians, were sacrificing our lives for defending our land! Today, our enemies are coming and purchasing these lands! We have been sold for money! Georgians, do not sell your lands! Soon, there will be no place for us in Georgia. It breaks my heart!”

Turkophobia

Political parties

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 5, Vazha Otarashvili, Alliance of Patriots: “What Armenia did, when it forced entire world to recognize its genocide by the Turks, we should do the same and make the Turks and Iranians recognize the genocide of Georgian nation. We should not keep silent. When [Giorgi] Kvirikashvili and chairpersons of the previous governments and parliaments, [Davit] Usupashvili and others, [Mikheil] Saakashvili came out and called Turkey a friendly state, we should remember that Turkey has grabbed 35% of our historical land and by the way, a century has not passed yet, and we should raise our complaints in this respect.”

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 5, Vazha Otarashvili, Alliance of Patriots: “You can go to Turkey and see that even an Orthodox church, a famous Hagia Sophia cathedral, built by Constantine XII, has turned into a mosque. And Georgian churches, 35% of our churches have been seized by Turkey and we cannot enter, light a candle and cross ourselves there and what we are talking about. A Georgian man cannot enter into our Tao Klarjeti, our Khandzta and our Shatberdi, our ancient, precious cultural and spiritual monuments, our Orthodox churches and now they are demanding tolerance from us.

Media

Asaval-Dasavali, August 6-12, Jaba Khubua, journalist: “Everything is being done both inside and outside Georgia to make Georgian people forget their lost territories and make them tolerate Russia’s occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region, like grabbing of Tao Klarjeti by Turkey. Who but a couple of patriots remembers Tao Klarjeti occupied by Turkey and who refers to Turkey as an occupant? Instead, it had been referred to as “a historical friend of Georgia” first by Saakashvili and then by Kvirikashvili.”

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 5, Giorgi Kasradze, host: “The Adjara region and Turkey’s open and declared interests in Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Guria regions – Georgian society probably remembers how Turkey ‘s interests in the Adjara region were identified and implemented under the previous authorities, among them Georgian citizenship granted to over 35 000 Turkish nationals within a day, a populist move taken by Mikheil Saakashvili, which proved quite painful for Adjarian and Batumi population; second, Georgian businessmen, who are frequently oppressed by the Georgian authorities – both local or central governments… The Kutaisi Street, which is not the only place, where the Turks gather and where the Georgians cannot set foot. And one more person, Tariel Nakaidze, an NGO representative, who calls himself a mufti and demands construction of a mosque in Batumi with Turkish money.”

Civil society organizations

Asaval-Dasavali, August 13-19, Sandro Bregadze, Georgian March: “As far as I know, the Embassy of Turkey has openly demanded the Georgian government not to allow erecting the monument to David the Builder in Batumi. Everyone remembers that upon the request of the Turkish Ambassador, the Georgian government refused to announce Didgoroba as a national holiday. We are not fighting against anyone and we want to have good neighborly relations with all countries, but like Georgia does not pursue Georgian policy in Turkey, the latter should not either pursue Turkish policy in Georgia.”

Alia, July 30 – August 5, Tamaz Bakuridze, NGO “For Our Rights”: “The door was opened widely to Turkey under Saakashvili’s rule and the best territories were ceded at 1 Lari – if you open hotels and factories here, I will give you these lands free of charge. Saakashvili did it without asking people anything. I think that Turkey will not use its army to invade any country; it will use economic levers to gain control over the political processes in this or that country or region, because today economy prevails over politics.”

Clerics

Georgia and World, August 2, Giorgi Razmadze, cleric: “Today there are over 150 mosques in the region and only 43 churches. So, a simple question arises: Who needs another huge mosque? Let me reiterate: it is the Turkish government’s imperialistic plan, which has many allies in Georgia. By the way, within the next few days Turkey will enact (if not yet) the law, according to which movement of Georgian vehicles with Georgian number plates will be restricted there. It is interesting why nobody talks about it, or where are our Euro-liberal non-governmental organizations, who see Turkophobia and Islamophobia everywhere?”

Islamophobia

Politicians

Asaval-Dasavali, August 27 – September 2, Jondi Bagaturia, Georgian Troupe: “The existence of an entire network of educational institutions affiliated with the Fethullah Gülen Islamist movement poses huge risks and threats to the Georgian state, especially as the graduates of these educational institutions appear in public agencies, holding senior positions there… The Gülen -funded network of educational institutions exists in Georgia to help this Islamist movement create its ideological and political cobweb here.”

Media

Georgia and World, August 15, Beso Barbakadze, journalist: “Who knows, quite soon the screaming of the Mullah from the mosque planned in Batumi may be heard in our capital. It was just the Mullah’s screaming that we silenced on August 12 for a century… but it is the country of paradoxes – we managed and became their slaves again… and without any struggle, at our own will and who knows, the Muslim world may write in its history “Miraculous Victory” as an example of invading the country without bloodshed.”

Society

Asaval-Dasavali, August 6-12, Ramaz Ioseliani, actor: “If I lived in that place in Batumi, where the Mullah is praying loudly, I would turn on the Lord’s Prayer and canticles with a voice amplifier. Is anybody there, who loves homeland?” Akhali Taoba

Discrimination on religious grounds

Politicians

Marshalpress, August 2, Irma Inashvili, Alliance of Patriots of Georgia: “The Catholic Church is a guest in our country and nobody oppresses it, nobody struggles against it, nobody obstructs its activities, but this guest, in the person of Giuseppe Pasotto, files a lawsuit against the Orthodox Church in the Constitutional Court and demands the same rights as those exercised by the Orthodox Church. Actually, it does not demand only the rights, but it also demands… for example, if you want to paint the walls of an Orthodox Church and donate an icon to it, you need to pay VAT. It is the desire of the Catholic Church (the Apostolic Administration of the Caucasus), whose leader claims to be our friend. Let me remind you that the Catholics make up 0.5% of the population of Georgia… It should be noted that besides the Catholic Church, its seven other supporters are also participating in this immorality… and let me only say that among them is the Union of Georgian Muslims led by Tariel Nakaidze, who tells us that he is our flesh and blood, who goes against the Church and openly fights against the Administration of Muslims of All Georgia and simultaneously threatens us from Facebook!” Facebook

Media

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 30, Bondo Mdzinarashvili, host: “[In France, the Jehovah’s witnesses will not knock at your door] if someone has a desire, he/she will visit their office. But here, in Georgia, we have serious problems in this view. If they knock at your door and then you tell them to get out from your home – it was just what happened to Nino Mikiashvili who told them to get out from her own home and they went and complained against her in police. But she did not allow them to enter her own home and for that reason, she was summoned by police for interrogation. Then police officers and others understood that they appeared in an awkward situation, but … in France, nobody will dare to come into your home.”

Georgia and World, August 15, Beso Barbakadze, journalist: “They say that Salome Zourabichvili is a Catholic Christian, and you can judge yourself whether it is correct to elect a Catholic as the President of the Orthodox country. But, let me repeat that this issue is being actively discussed since 2003.”

Georgia and World, August 8, Bakur Svanidze, author: “I feel doubtful about the Georgian Parliament’s initiative to remove that provision from the Georgian constitution from January 2019, which makes the conscription of religious servants inadmissible. As it seems, in its time this provision was developed to discharge the Jehovah’s Witnesses from the military and probably that is why so many Georgian guys have joined this religious sect.”

Anti-western sentiments

Politicians

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 5, Jondi Bagaturia, Georgian Troupe: “There are certain plans to change the demographic balance in Georgia. This decision has been imposed on us from outside, by the enemies of our country, as well as by the inner betrayers of our country … According to their plans, Georgians should appear in the minority. It is just what changing an ethnic balance means, exactly the same thing that happened in Singapore. Presently, local population of Singapore makes up only 17% of total population… They want to do the same in Georgia. What is being done for this purpose? It is, on the one hand, what Georgian Dream did in 2014, when it legalized the propaganda of homosexuality through the anti-discrimination law, which certainly represents one of the means for changing the demographic balance in the country.”

Media

Obieqtivi, Okros Kveta, August 4, Valeri Kvaratskhelia, host: “As if, we, the Georgians, do not have other problems today; someone is shouting day and night and American, but Georgian-language media outlets are widely promoting it, as if marijuana should be legalized, as if drug use, prostitution, homosexuality, depraved sexual intercourse, their wedding or legalization of their marriage, granting them the right to adopt a child and so on [should be legalized].”

Asaval-Dasavali, August 13-19, Giorgi Gigauri, journalist: “Soros-follower Lomjaria demands the abolition of a concept “head of the family,” thus directly undermining a millennium-old tradition of Georgian family blessed by God. Nino Lomjaria does not want simply to abolish the term “head of the family”, but she has decided, upon the instructions of her patrons, to demolish the divine hierarchy of a Georgian family and incite strife between a man and a woman. So, this is the plan aimed at depriving the men of their rights, as well as ensuring feminization- effeminacy and women’s masculinization! So, they want to create the same situation in Georgia as in “the civilized West” – with tender homosexual men and lesbian-masculinized women!”

Society

Georgia and World, August 9, Givi Gureshidze, political analyst: “Let’s recollect the myth about Odysseus, who encountered two evils - Scylla and Charybdis. Presently, the United States and the West are Charybdis, because they are trying to deprive us of everything national and to impose on us immoral and depraved serials threatening with swallowing us. Russia is Scylla, who demands not to allow its enemy, NATO into Georgia. As a result of our geopolitical blindness, our actions lacking diplomacy and common sense, we have forced Russia to become an occupying force. You can argue and I will prove my truth!”

Homophobia

Politicians

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, August 5, Vazha Otarashvili, Alliance of Patriots: “It turns out that those efforts, those bloodshed and struggle, those masterpieces created by our great ancestors… we should wipe them off the face of the earth - among them Rustaveli, Arsen of Ikalto, Giorgi Mtatsmindeli, Giorgi Saakadzem Vakhtang Gorgasali, King Tamar, Ketevan the Martyr, Galaktion, Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli, Titsian Tabidze, Paolo Iashvili, Lado Asatiani and others - and listen to those pederasts as well as to the lies of those drug users.”

Asaval-Dasavali, August 6-12, Gigla Baramidze, United Democratic Movement: “The government has legalized poisoning of our children. Marijuana legalization will be followed by legalization of hard drugs. Then same-sex marriage will be legalized.” Akhali Taoba

Media

Asaval-Dasavali, August 13-19, Jaba Khubua, journalist: “The anti-Dream [referring to the ruling Georgian Dream party] neglected the will of the Georgian nation, as well as the Georgian Orthodox Church and hang a perfidious law on elimination of all forms of discrimination as the Sword of Damocles over Georgia. They refer to it as the anti-discrimination law, though it directly hits our centuries-old national interests and values. The anti-Dream appointed Nino Lomjaria, staunch liberast and zonder-gender, as Georgia’s public defender… The anti-Dream even put its signature on social genocide of the Georgian nation and legalized marijuana that will be followed by legalization of all types of drugs, same-sex marriage and granting LGBT couples the right to adopt a child.”

Georgia and World, August 15, Beso Barbakadze, journalist: “Europe, which we are aspiring to, is waking up and understanding that what it was striving for is not correct and that same-sex marriage, disrespect of parents by children, numbering of fathers and mothers is simply destructive.”

Civil society organizations

Marshalpress, August 29; Interpressnews, August 29, Sandro Bregadze, Georgian March: “Let me remind you that Koka Morgoshia expressed protest against awarding a homosexuality prize to Guram Kashia. Now, Kashia, who is frightened by the bewilderment of his fans, tries to achieve arrest of all those fans, who are against LGBT propaganda… The National Team has such a shameful captain.”

Asaval-Dasavali, August 20-26, Dimitri Lortkipanidze, Georgian-Russian public center: “I mean the gender dictatorship reigning in Georgia, as well as “the anti-discrimination law” imposed on us, homosexuality propaganda, juvenile justice and legalization and expansion of drugs, with which they try to destroy Georgia!”

Clerics

Asaval-Dasavali, August 6-12, Davit Isakadze, archpriest: “The Constitutional Court should be abolished and its rulings on legalization on drugs and in favor of the anti-discrimination law should be annulled; arbitrariness of LGBT organizations and the Soros Foundation should be terminated.”

Society

Kviris Palitra, August 20-26, Nato Tvildiani, citizen: “Today, homosexuality or other deviations are deemed as a free choice and they are eve favored. We have brought up good children.”

Asaval-Dasavali, August 27 – September 2, Manuchar Machaidze, former footballer: “They no longer want to play football, but instead they want to receive LGBT awards! There are bigger countries than us, they have more “experience” in this issue than us and let them award their footballers. Why did they choose us? This fact further intensifies my doubts that someone has really decided to achieve the degradation and destruction of Georgian people! I cannot understand what these sick people need from us. They compel us to have same-sex relationship. They have launched to pederastize football from our country… They want to change people’s mentality and recognize homosexuality. Brazilian and Spanish footballers had also supported homosexuals but UEFA did not award them like Guram Kashia.”

Gender

Politicians

Marshalpress, August 10, Irma Inashvili, Alliance of Patriots of Georgia: “I familiarized myself with the Public Defender’s statement. They already do not like a term “head of the family” referring to a man. They suppose that this term violates the principle of women’s equality and is discriminative. I have never supposed that the term “head of the family” oppresses me or makes me feel uncomfortable. Let me reiterate: there is no need to change the term. It is an attempt to derogate Georgian man and it has already turned into a purpose-oriented campaign over the past years. So, the more active women raise their voices and defend the dignity of their husbands as the heads of families, the better it will be. Please, do not focus on some exceptions. These exceptions do not take place regularly. They will soon offer a bill – let men give birth to their children, because women have no time and their rights are restricted. Go away, move to another island and stage your experiments there. We like what we have!”

Media

Georgia and World, August 15, Beso Barbakadze, journalist: “Our ombudswoman tries to establish matriarchy. As it seems, her appointment as the public defender and the fact that a woman is a real presidential candidate convinced her that it is possible to stage a small “family uprising” and she spares no efforts to achieve it.”
