According to open source reports, the Greek frigate HYDRA (F-452) encountered two Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) while safeguarding a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden.
The frigate, serving in the European Union's naval mission in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden OPERATION ASPIDES, managed to destroy one UAV, causing the other to alter its course.
OPERATION ASPIDES was launched in February to help protect the key maritime trade route from drone and missile attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia, who continue to target commercial ships in retaliation for Israel's war on Gaza.
There were no reports of damage or injuries.
