Note from your GEWC Board  Re:  No Refund Policy

The purpose of this note is to provide insight regarding no refunds for the 2020/2021 Curling Season.

Please keep in mind as you read this note, the club is a not-for-profit organization, governed by the BC Societies Act, and is unable to generate surpluses or build large cash reserves.

The current reality of COVID has been a significant challenge for everyone in their daily lives and for organizations and businesses alike. And our club is no different. Our first mitigating action related to COVID saw our management team opt into the CERB program over the summer, coming at a personal financial loss, in support of the best interests of the club.

Your board has spent countless hours analyzing data, developing financial forecasts while itemizing an array of associated risks to enable our ability to make the best decisions with the information we have.

Our goals have been and continue to be:

    • Ensure A Safe Return to Play For Everyone
    • Secure the Future Of The Golden Ears Winter Club
    • Ensure GEWC Remains A Destination for Recreation!

As such, the no refund policy was recommended and approved by the board as a measure to increase the flexibility of paying dues while enabling the club to remain financially viable on into the future.

Once the decision to open the doors is made it carries significant financial commitments related to start-up costs coupled with substantial operating expenses (utilities).

Please be aware of some additional impacts being borne by the club related to COVID:

    Category

    Financial Impact

    Ball Hockey Cancelation

    $20,000 Loss

    COVID Start-Up/Ongoing Costs

    $25,000 Increase in Costs (Forecasted)

    Reduced Membership

    $25,000 - $75,000 Loss

We appreciate your understanding and ongoing support of the Golden Ears Winter Club.

    Signed,

    GEWC Board of Directors
