MICHIGAN SCOUTING MY.SCOUTING EVENTS CAMPING

Fellow Eagle Scouts,

This past summer, over 6,000 Scouts participated in our summer camp programs throughout the lower peninsula. We had over 1,500 adult volunteers give their time to the youth and they had the best summer yet! Since 1912, Eagle Scouts have returned to their troops, served on summer camp staff, mentored future Eagle Scouts, or made a gift.

We would like to highlight how you can give back to Scouting in a meaningful way within your schedule. Many of you have heard the phrase “it’s only an hour per week.” We know we can do better than that.

Please review some of the opportunities below. There are many ways you can give back and we are here to help. We hope to see you at a social event or out at one of our camps!

Eagle Dinner Mentor – connect with an Eagle Scout who shares your career interest

Eagle Day of Service – held seasonally at all of our council camp properties. Join us on a Saturday to prepare our camps for our youth programs

Scouting for Food – help support the needy in our community in November or February.

Merit Badge Day – teach a merit badge or special skill class on a Saturday

Committee Member – Eagle Scout Alumni of Michigan

Our committee leads by the Scout Oath and Law to carry on the value of Scouting to our council and the community we serve. We need Eagle Scout volunteers to join our committee and help deliver this message.

Events subcommittee – Eagle Recognition, Speaker Series, and Social Events

Service projects subcommittee – All events including the Annual Eagle Recognition Dinner and Building Character Celebration

Communications subcommittee – Eagle Search, E-communication, and Scholarships

Membership subcommittee – Membership, District Relations, and Eagle Court of Honor Assistance

UPCOMING EVENTS

Pedro Trail Service Day

Sunday, December 4th – 9 AM – 3 PM @ D-A Scout Ranch

Who: Scouters, alumni, family, and friends of the D-A Scout Ranch are invited to attend a one-day service hike on the longest scout camp trail in the great state of Michigan.

The Pedro Trail started in 1981 as an Order of the Arrow project to get scouts out hiking. Over the past 41 years it has seen quite a few changes and many improvements along the way. Now we have 3 loops to hike with 10 miles of pure nature to experience. Each trail designed for a specific ages and hiking abilities.

We plan to walk the Yellow Loop of the Pedro Trail, covering 6 miles, GPS bad areas, remark trail and add new markers and stickers on the Ordep side of the trail.

Eagle Scout Alumni are invited to this one-of-a-kind holiday celebration event! All are invited including non-Scouters and spouses. We will also hold a collection for Toys for Tots!

All Event Proceeds support boys in the Inner City of Flint and provide them with the ULTIMATE Scouting Experience!

Every Child Deserves a Chance to Be a Part of the Urban Scouting Program

Do you enjoy meeting other Eagle Scout Alumni?

BSA Alumni Award - The award recognizes registered Scouters who help unregistered alumni rejoin the program. This task breaks down into four categories of requirements:

Alumni identification and promotion, such as contacting former members, planning alumni activities, and/or presenting to non-Scout groups.
Alumni engagement, including helping two former members become registered Scouters or recruiting alumni to volunteer at Scouting events.
Personal participation, which could mean serving on an alumni committee or sharing your experiences at the BSA Alumni Web site.
Personal education, such as completing the online alumni training or taking an alumni course at the Philmont Training Center.
