Cleveland Buddhist Temple Remembers
Shigeru Fujimura
With Gratitude
Shigeru Fujimura, 98, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday night, December 6, 2021, in Highland Heights, Ohio.
Shig was born on April 23, 1923, in Lodi, California, the 3rd of 5 children including Dorothy Okura, Satoru Fujimura, Cliff Fujimura and Sheryl Ito.
During World War II, the family was relocated to the Rohwer Internment Camp in Arkansas. After the war, Shig moved to Cleveland where he met and married Kiyoko (Sakoi), who passed away in 2007. He is survived by their three daughters Lynn (David) Sosalla, Elaine (Anthony) Fujimura, Sandy (Robert) Ferreri, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Shig owned a TV repair business with his brother Cliff and their friend and business partner Hiro Baba. Hiro eventually moved out of state, but Shig and Cliff kept the business under the name Trio TV until they both retired in the 1980’s.
Shig was a founding member of the Cleveland Buddhist Temple, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2020. At age 96, he was honored with a certificate of appreciation from the Buddhist Churches of America recognizing his 75 years of service to the Temple and the community.
Arrangements are being made by Brickman Bros. in Willoughby, Ohio. Shig will be laid to rest with Kiyoko in a private ceremony at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The family will hold a memorial service in the spring of 2022 in conjunction with the Gardena Buddhist Church in California.
Donations in Shig’s name may be made to the Cleveland Buddhist Temple. Checks should be payable to Midwest Buddhist Temple and mailed to Cleveland Buddhist Temple. (https://clevelandbuddhisttempl...).
