A barge being towed by a Singapore-flagged tug in the Singapore Strait was approached by a sampan. The Master reported that perpetrators boarded the barge and stole a quantity of scrap metal before making their escape. All crew members were reported safe, and the vessel continued to its next port of call.
This incident brings the total number of confirmed incidents in the region to at least 45 this year, 3 in the last three days alone, and with 32 of those incidents exhibiting similar characteristics and occurring within the Singapore Strait area.
