1,768 New COVID-19 Cases & 31 Deaths Reported in Kentucky for January 31, 2021
(148 New Cases in Fayette County)
Even with the availability of the long awaited COVID-19 vaccines, it is still important and necessary to continue to practice the CDC and Kentucky Governor's Guidance and Mandates. The distribution and administration of the vaccines to millions of people is a monumental task and will take time. Meanwhile we must stay steadfast, vigilant and disciplined in the adherence of safe practices as provided by the CDC and the Kentucky Governor's Health advice in light of the continued spread of the virus. Click CDC VACCINE INFORMATION for some information from the CDC on the COVID-19 vaccines.
- Get a flu vaccination as soon as possible but getting it any time in the flu season is beneficial. VaccineFinderexternal icon to find out where to get vaccinated near you.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick, maintain at least 6 feet from others who are not from your household,
- Wear face masks when in public (Mandatory in Kentucky and is being extended on a 30 day basis until the spread is under control),
- Wash your hands frequently,
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and leave home only when absolutely necessary.

Today's Bible Study Lesson
“Prophesying Daughters”
Aim: Examine how God called and empowered women to proclaim His message, Affirm contribution of godly women to the church’s mission.
Background: Luke 2:36-38; Acts 1:12-14, 2:16-21, 21:8-9
Bible Lesson: Luke 2:36-38; Acts 2:16-21, 21:8-9
Memory Verse:
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:” Act 2:17 KJV
Some Highlights:
- This lesson marks the beginning of a new Unit: “The Call of Women” which highlights the involvement of Women in the spread of the Gospel.
- Luke chapter 2 like Matthew chapter 1:18-25, documents Jesus Birth, the Visit of the Shepherds, and account of Mary and Joseph bringing Baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to be presented to the priest as the sacrifice of the firstborn male child born to the couple as required by Jewish Law (Exodus 13:12-13 ; 22:29)
- Simeon, a devout man of Jerusalem who anxiously awaited the Consulation of Israel, that is the Messiah, was led by the Holy Spirit to come to the temple the very time that Baby Jesus was brought to the temple. Simeon held Baby Jesus and exclaimed that now he could depart in peace for God’s Promise to him to see the Messiah before his death had been fulfilled.
- Mary and Joseph were amazed by the words of Simeon that confirmed that their child was indeed the Messiah.
- Anna, whose name means grace, was also in the temple. She was a prophetess whose ancesters were of the tribe of Asher. She had been married for seven years before her husband died leaving as a widow for 84 years. Anna had devoted her life to serving at the temple with fasting and praying. She too had been awaiting the Messiah.
- Anna’s first response to seeing Baby Jesus, the long awaited Messiah, was to praise God for the experience and to witness and proclaim to all who were awaiting the Redemption in Jerusalem that the Messiah had arrived.
- The Book of Acts is attributed to the physician Luke who records the Acts of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles. The second chapter records the events of the day of Penecost when many believers were assemblied together when the Holy Spirit descended upon them and they began to speak in tongues, languages not native to them, such that all heard in their own language as the Holy Spirit dictated of the goodness of the Lord. There was such a commotion that onlookers accused them of being drunk with wine. Peter declared that they were not drunk, but that a portion of what was prophesize in Joel 2:28-31 was being fulfilled. The later portion of the Joel’s prophesy is yet to be fulfilled as further described in Revelations 6:12.
- In Acts chapter 21, physician Luke records Paul’s Third Missionary Journey on his way to Jerusalem. At Caesarea, the group stopped at Philip the Evangelist’s home. This is the same Philip, who was appointed as one of the seven original deacons. His devotion and dedication to spreading the Good News elevated his title to an Evangelist. He had four unmarried, virgin daughters who had the gift of prophesy. Remember prophesy can be foretelling (telling the future) or forth telling (witnessing to what God directs to be said).
Take Aways:
- A devout and dedicated woman, Anna, was blessed with the priviledge to forthtell the arrival of the Messiah.
- Witnessing to the goodness of God is not just left to the preacher, but we are all empowered by the Holy Spirit to share our Christian experiences with all who will listen.
- Women as well as men can witness and share their Gospel experiences
Bible Verses to Keep in Mind:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20 KJV
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Mat hew 5:16 KJV
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always [be] ready to [give] a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 1 Peter 3:15 NKJV
