We wish you a happy start in 2020 and hope you are already working on your New Year’s resolutions. As for EaP CSF, our resolution for 2020 remains to keep the profile of the EaP high on the political Agenda of the EU institutions as well as informing our dear audience about our activities throughout the year. In January 2020, we glance back to our participation at Platforms and Panels, present you the numbers of the selection process for new Delegates 2020-2021 and share with you our remaining hidden gems of 2019’s Re-granting project cycle. News from EaP CSF
Financial partnership agreement with the EC

In December, we have signed the financial partnership agreement with the European Commission for the duration of 4 years. Though the agreement does not stipulate any financial resources at this stage, it indicates the importance given to the work and expertise of the EaP CSF by the EC. The EaP CSF has been chosen to become the EC's strategic partner in strengthening the role of CSOs as governance actors, enhancing cooperation and coordination of CSO capacity building actions and initiatives and increasing the impact of capacity development actions across the EaP.

New cycle of Delegates 2020-2021

EaP CSF has received 523 applications for the new cycle of Delegates. 86% of all application came from the CSOs in EaP countries, with Armenia being the most active, submitting 101 applications. In terms of thematic activities, Working Group 4 is the runner, receiving 187 applications. The finals results of the selection will be publicly available in March 2020.

20th Meeting of Platform 1

Sofia Strive (Forum Syd, Sweden) and Gubad Ibadoghlu (Public Initiatives Center, Azerbaijan) have advocated for more effective measures to achieve access to information for civil society in the EaP region, and urged for a speedy ratification of the Istanbul Convention in Armenia and Belarus. Research and Innovation Panel

Oleg Shatberashvili (European Studies for Innovative Development of Georgia, ESIDG) and Volodymyr Nochvai (National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine) have advocated for approximating R&I structures of EaP countries more resolutely with the EU average. Read more here.

Strengthening the potential of youth work in Eastern Europe

Ekaterina Nekit (National University “Odessa Academy of Law, Ukraine), Oleg Zhyvotovskyi (European Choice, Ukraine) and Nukri Kvelashvili (Movement – Youth Alliance, Georgia) have extended civil society’s network in the field of youth work at the Conference “Strengthening the potential of youth work in Eastern Europe – Peer learning event on support to youth work development in the region”. EU4Climate workshop on climate change adaptation

Ruslan Havryliuk (National Ecological Centre, Ukraine) and Dr. Roman Corobov (Eco-TIRAS River Keepers, Moldova) have advocated for more direct involvement of civil society in the planning and implementation of mitigation and adaption measures at the Regional Workshop on Adaptation Planning and Mainstreaming of Climate Risks into National and Sectoral Planning Processes. Supporting projects of civil society

The EaP CSF Re-granting scheme (Financial Support to third parties – FSTP) supports projects of civil society organisations from EaP countries and the EU member states, which have a regional dimension and facilitate the work of one of the five thematic Working Groups of the Forum. In the course of 2019, EaP CSF has provided support to 13 projects. Scroll down to see the progress of each project and find out more about Re-granting on our web page.

Supporting Economic Participation of Excluded Youth

In Armenia 8 out of 20 participants of the Re-granting project “Employment Lab” found a job after the activities of the project. For Georgia, the number is 6 out of 20 participants, who are back in working environment. In Moldova 12 participants of Employment Lab restarted their working path. Read more about the project here.

Monitoring Russian propaganda

The establishment of the independent Orthodox Church in Ukraine fundamentally changed Russian influence and soft power structures in post-Soviet countries. Consequentially, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine became targets of increased Russian propaganda efforts. Read more about the project here.

Labour rights of migrant workers from EaP countries

This Re-granting project produced a study on labour rights of migrant workers from the EaP countries Belarus, Ukraine and Georgia who are engaged in the informal sector of the EU labour market. The study elaborates policy recommendations with the aim to improve the situation of labour migrants from the perspective of labour rights protection. Read more about the project here.

Energy poverty: Guidance for state policy and public discourse in times of reform

Energy-related expenses are of great concern for the public in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. This project produced recommendations for national legislation on energy poverty in these EaP countries. The comparative study recommends improving statistics and making energy related data more transparent and easily available. Read the whole research here.

The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) published a new Paper, inspiring the reader to think of different geopolitical scenarios “What if…?” Among other contributions, Stanislav Secrieru is analyzing the Future of Eastern Partnership. Read more here.
