Next year is a Leap Year! To celebrate this SCESY is holding the 4th Annual South Yorkshire Schools’ Climate Conference on 29th – that’s right!! 29th February 2024.

Not only that -  you can also note the venue: We will be holding our conference at the Niagara Conference and Leisure Centre, Niagara Road, Sheffield S6 1LU.

Nick Nuttgens sadly passed away in January. We remain very grateful to him for creating this excellent workshop for secondary school pupils for our 2021 online conference on how to have relaxed climate conversations with people. At SCESY we encourage you to sign up to the Teach the Future newsletters. They have been developing a Curriculum for a Changing Climate. We urge you to have a look at this as it provides opportunities for teaching about the Climate Emergency in different subject areas. A tool for you to use with your colleagues when a little bit of persuasion is needed as you plan for next year.

On the Teach the Future website here is their Curriculum for a Changing Climate, including their guides for languages, maths and science at KS3 and GCSE level. They plan to expand this into primary and A-Level subjects.

'Clean Air Day' was on 15th June, but Action for Clean Air still has some great resources for you to use at any time on their website. They include assembly slides, lesson slides, 'lichen bio-indicator' survey sheets for pupils, and examples of pupil work. You can download the resources here.

Please sign and share the petition to Parliament here to get the government to show a commitment to Let's Go Zero's 7-steps to create zero carbon schools, and specifically to the first step of the government committing to all schools being zero carbon by 2030, and announcing long term and consistent policies and funding to enable this.

Has your school declared a Climate Emergency? If so, when did it do so and what actions is it taking? Let us know if your school has or is planning to declare a Climate Emergency (see 'Contact Us' at the bottom of the page).
