Hello Friends!

Happy Friday- and, "Welcome back to "The Cre8tive Life!"- your weekly newsletter full of lifestyle tips, smiles, and cool things to check out!

This week has been full of of activity for me. I attended a city sponsored event planner field trip where I was able to see and explore a plethora of interesting potential client sites in Williamsburg (Brooklyn), went to one of my favorite diversity and inclusion conferences,  "The Women in Innovation Forum NY," and participated in a music and art workshop that forced you to really tap into your creative mindset. It was definitely an inspirational way to spend my week!

*I have shared a few pictures here, but will also be posting more on my Instagram @thecre8tiveartisan

My weekly (random) compilation of some of my favorite "cre8tive" things that I want to share:

  • FAVORITE WORD: Meraki: To do something with soul, creativity, or love; When you love doing something, anything, so much that you put yourself into it.

  • ADVICE:  "When you can't control what's happening, challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what's happening. That's where the power is."

  • MOOD MUSIC: Around this time of year I tend to get in a deeply reflectional zone...Shirley Horn's  classic, "Here's to Life" has been on a bit of repeat for me as of late. (I have literally listened to it at least 5 times in a row since working on this week's newsletter).

  • SMILE OF THE WEEK: In the course of my week, I randomly met this little seven year old boy, Avett Ray, and his mother. His spirit and energy throughout our conversation captured my heart. I wish him nothing but happiness and success in his future. (I will be sharing some the videos and pics I took of him soon! )

  • BOOK I'M READING: Michelle Obama's "Becoming"...FINALLY!!!

  • RANDOM LIFE TIP: If you're having one of those days where you're not really wanting to leave the house; but, you're also hungry, with limited (and random)  food in the fridge, Supercook may be your new best friend. You just plug in the ingredients you have, and then it will tell you what you can make, and how you can make it. Gotta love improvisational cooking!

  • FOOD TO TRY: Cauliflower has creeped into my world as one of my "new" favorite things. And, I find myself getting super excited whenever I see places that have Buffalo or BBQ cauliflower on their menus.  I haven't made any for myself yet- but, I do look forward to trying out THIS RECIPE soon! (Let me know if you try too!)

As I loosely eluded above, I tend to get in a deeply reflectional mood this time of year. In fact, I have an inclination to almost turn into a bit of a social recluse, where I am in more of a life observation mode, and ruminating over things that are harder to express to others (my mind can be a bit complex at times). If you're wondering, "Why this time of year more so than others?", I will share that it is because it's nearing my birthday. This one in particular will be marked by one of those "milestones" where I will be entering into a new decade (if I am so blessed to see that day next month). I have been doing a lot of thinking over what that means to me in terms of where I am in my life, and what I am wanting for myself in the future.

As this year has moved along, and I have edged closer and closer to my "personal new year," I have felt a shift in terms of me relentlessly chasing peace, and my own definitions of success and happiness. I have also been extremely intentional about my desire to enter spaces as my most authentic self, and to be very cautious and diligent about the energy that is around me. At times, it seems as though focusing on these things may sound a bit "odd" given my current state of affairs; but, at the same time, I feel as though I am on my path to getting closer to my purpose. And, I hold on to my faith that things will unfold if I stay the course.

This week I challenge you to and think about the things you are "chasing" after in your life, and what work you are internally doing to reach towards them.

Thank you to everyone that has filled out the survey! I will be sharing some upcoming events that I have been working on in the next couple of newsletters- so stay tuned for more info and invites!

For those who haven't filled out the survey, I can definitely still use your feedback. So, if you have not done so already, please take  5 minutes to fill out:
