We also know the likely Presidential battlegrounds: AZ, GA, MI, NC, NV, OH, PA, and WI. These states, except GA and NC, will also be Senate battlegrounds. Crimson Goes Blue will work to influence the outcome in these states with our donations and our time, but to do that, we will need to grow our membership, particularly in the Midwest, and we will need members to step into leadership positions in order to have the most impact.
If I had to make a prediction, I currently believe the race will be between Biden and Trump–with Trump’s nomination contingent on the Republican field splitting among several candidates so that his consistent near-30% support from primary voters will be enough to give him the nod. If Biden remains the frontrunner, it is going to be critical that we enthusiastically stand behind him for the remarkable achievements he has shepherded with a tiny House majority in his first 2 years, his leadership on foreign policy, his record on creating jobs, and the confirmation of judges.
I am hopeful we can win the Presidency in 2024 for many reasons. We clearly have the candidates who are more aligned with the views of the American people–on climate, abortion, gun safety, civil rights, voting rights, social security, healthcare, and more. The Democrats have been more able to unite in both messaging and delivering on promises to voters, while the divisions and disorganization among Republicans are visible for all to see. Finally, the anti-MAGA movement is the largest political force in American history and has motivated historically high turnout while the Republican party seems to be doubling down on a losing backward-looking agenda that just lost them many midterm races.
The next presidential election may seem a long time in the future, but we will need to begin building our infrastructure now, especially among our Midwest alumni, to help secure a win.
