Agree do disagree
I'm sure I am not the only one who is worried about the US elections - it appears that people cannot even discuss with others who have voted for a different person. Threat of unrest is very real, no matter what the end result will be.
It is a sign of civilized mind to be able to agree to disagree. We simply cannot agree with everyone else in this world. And so we cannot react with aggression towards those who think differently.
People who have differing opinions are not any worse than you. Nor are you any worse than they are, no matter what they say. We each have our reasons for our opinions and it isn't likely anyone will change their opinion when confronted in an angry manner.
So agree to disagree on a matter, and find common ground in other matters you can agree on. If you can discuss without great emotion about something you disagree on, by all means do. But don't start yelling and telling the other one is wrong. It usually only ends up with all parties digging themselves even deeper in the trenches of their opinions.
And sometimes it is quite a relief to say to yourself "I don't need to express an opinion about this."
Try it. The next time someone tries to draw you into an argument say to yourself "I don't need to express an opinion about this." Feel how that feels. You might be surprised.
