Girl Power!
Hi ,
Welcome to the March edition of the Prism newsletter.
It seemed to be a female orientated month with International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day happening this month. It made me take a look at Prism with our headcount being (for the first time ever) a female majority business with 70% of the team being women. Furthermore, most also being mums which I think is a little unusual in the recruitment industry, which I am proud of… if I do say so myself! Remote working has certainly helped us improve the diversity of Prism employees. Diversity and inclusion (D&I) is a massively hot topic with most of our clients in the tech world. Most are striving to attract a more balanced and varied workforce. The technology industry we work in is hugely male dominated. We are asked frequently for advice in attracting a more diverse workforce. There’s no magic wand but we will be writing a blog on this topic soon so watch this space. I still believe more needs to be done earlier at junior school level to educate and attract girls to ‘do tech’ and introduce IT as a career / profession at the very early stages of the education system.
Looking at the market in general, I noticed Rishi Sunak comment on LinkedIn yesterday that the UK tech sector had just hit $1 trillion value. What an achievement for the UK and it goes to show what a success the tech industry has been here! London is famed for its financial prowess, but it is clear that it is also a tech hub; attracting some of the best and brightest in the world when it comes innovation. This is of course also true of the DevOps market, which Grand View Research is now estimating will grow to $12.85 billion in value globally.
The ONS in March reported continued labour market recovery with unemployment falling even further to begin 2022, with record levels of vacancies. The talent market itself continues to prove challenging for people looking to hire in that it is still very much a candidate market. Getting the best talent, especially in DevOps, is proving extremely challenging given the array of opportunities on offer to candidates. Employers need to move super-fast in order to get hires over the line. If you snooze, you will definitely lose.
As ever, feel free to reach out regarding anything talent acquisition or DevOps related, it would be great to hear from you. Book a call with me here
Thanks,
