President's Message
Spring is here and so is the warmer weather. Hopefully we will be able to get into our gardens soon and spend some quality time with nature that doesn't mean shovelling snow.
I am happy that we were able to get the winter semester up and running. Fours weeks in and attendance is good. We currently have about 200 people enrolled. We even have a new Spanish class.
The Tai Chi Groups are all back at Wall Street United Church and glad to be back home. It is really nice to see familiar faces again too. Cathie and Trevor are also happy for some company.
At this time the semester will go through to May 13. Enjoy your classes and remember to stay safe. I also want to take a moment to thank all our leaders. We have asked more of them in the last year than ever. They have followed new protocols and done everything possible to keep their students safe. Please take a moment at your next class to thank your leader. They are our front line workers and deserve to be recognized. Since hugging isn't allowed - how about a round of applause at the next class?
Although we have gone into the RED zone, all our leaders are taking the greatest care to keep everyone safe. It is all of our responsibilities to follow the rules - Wear a mask, stay 3 metres apart and wash your hands regularly. Our mental health is important and 50+ is here to help with that; but it is also important to stay home as much as possible and avoid crowds and indoor spaces. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Vaccines are available to everyone over 60 now. If you are 60 - 74 - call a pharmacy in Kingston and set up an appointment for the Astra Zeneca jab. If you are 75 or older arrange your appointment on-line at ontario.ca or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Information Line number at 1-888-999-6488. The lines are open 8 AM - 8 PM everyday.
I want to thank all those that have generously given donations. I am always amazed at the generosity of Brockville residents and especially our 50+ group. Not only did we receive individual donations, but people with birthdays opted for donations instead of personal birthday gifts. How giving is that? Following is an example of the gratitude shown to our centre. We asked Heather if she would allow us to print her sentiments. I am so glad we are able to share this card with you.
We are at the homestretch. Stay safe (I can't emphasize that enough) and be kind to everyone you meet. We will get through this.
