Efficient ink use - key to meeting tighter packaging waste regulations
The EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) enforces circularity and waste elimination in packaging. There will be stricter requirements at every stage of the packaging value chain, from design to end-of-life management.
For instance, all packaging materials sold in the EU must be at least 70% recyclable by 2030. Another implication is that producers will have to pay Extended Producer Responsibility fees to cover the cost of managing their waste.
Process efficiency is therefore paramount. We have many blogs to help printers stamp out ink-related waste in the package printing workflow. These include: techniques for efficient return-ink management, the basic principles of efficient ink dispensing, and circularity strategies for ink logistics.
Legislation will be phased in from August 2026, so printers should start understanding how PPWR impacts their production processes. We’re ready to help, if you need further advice on optimizing ink processes.
