So you've been doing all the things right on Instagram... but you've started to hear crickets. It's typical to plateaued especially with the respective platform constantly changing and evolving. If you're unsure of what to do to boost your engagement and reach new followers, these 3 steps will get you started.

  1. Check your top posts for engagement: what are common themes? The same hashtags, the same types of content, a certain type of image? Going back to see what has worked in the past will help you emulate that for future posts. Also back and look to see if every post has a CTA calling them to comment, double-tap, save the post for later, or slide in your DMs.

Ex: After checking my top posts from this year, a common thread for my most popular posts are memes with GIFs, photos of me, or content with quick actionable tips users can refer to later.

  2. Use all parts of Instagram in your entire strategy. Maybe you're using stories or hopping on an occasional, but on Instagram that's not enough anymore. To ensure your followers and potential followers are seeing your content, this often means trying something new and using ALLLL parts on Instagram. Lives, IGTV, and fresh stories content are simple ways to use more of Instagram, which makes Instagram favor your content.

  3. Are you engaging with your dream followers consistently? I mean setting time aside to engage with your target audience via comments, likes, and DMs. Incorporating this into your strategy is the most effective way to make new connections. I start by doing this with hashtags I think my ideal clients might be following, and then I try to make a REAL connection. That means no "I love this post" generic comments or pitching in your first message with them, but truly trying to make new friends on Instagram. You'd be surprised who may respond back and become a new follower.

Tip: I suggest setting timers to ensure you're being intentional with engagement sessions. Pencil in 5-10 minutes each day.

If your plateau is getting you in a funk, I suggest taking a step back and really reflecting on if you're aligned with your content. Is Instagram no longer fun for you? Are you too focused on vanity metrics? These mindset blocks can often lead to growth plateaus. With so much content out there to consume, you want to be sure that your brand shines through in the most authentic way possible.
