Sunday, August 27 - 11:00 am
Seeker Service Part II - "Now I Am Become…? Science and Unitarian Universalism"
Join us in person or watch on YouTube.
Robert Oppenheimer once said during an interview that, at the time of the first atomic bomb test, he recalled a line from the Bhagavad Gita: “Now I am become Death, destroyer of worlds.” As Unitarian Universalists, we celebrate science, and it is one of our key sources, but how do we understand and relate to the violence and destruction that have been unleashed by some scientific discoveries? How can the values of Unitarian Universalism inform an ethics of science and technology?
Participating in Sunday's service:
Service Leader: Rev. Diana Davies; Worship Associate: Frank Victor Roesler III; Choir Director: Chukwuebuka (‘Ebuka) G. Ezeakacha; Accompanist: Steven Elkins Kennedy; Technical Support: Tammy Epperson and Ellisya Ravencroft

September 10
Official Start of the New Church Year - Join Us for Ingathering!
The official start of our new church year is September 10. Once again, this service will feature a water ceremony. In this ceremony, everyone brings a small container of water that represents a journey (real or symbolic) they’ve taken over the summer. It might be water from a trip to the ocean, or from a favorite fishing hole. It might be rainwater collected after a storm, or water from a beloved pet’s bowl. We gather all these into one container, to symbolize the way we come together as individuals on our separate paths but form one community. Please join us for this special day.

WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY is celebrated in the United States on August 26 to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment (Amendment XIX) to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex. It was first celebrated in 1971, designated by Congress in 1973, and is proclaimed each year by the United States President. It is regrettable black women had to wait years before they earned the same privilege.
NEWS FROM OK POLICY INSTITUTE: Searching for 'forever chemicals' in Oklahoma's drinking water: Before you take a sip of water from a public water supply, it runs a gauntlet of tests to make sure it’s safe for you to drink. But in about half of America’s public water supplies lurks something regulators haven’t been testing for — a family of so-called “forever chemicals” or PFAS (pronounced Pea-fas). Dr. Kenneth Ede, a PFAS consultant and retired OSU professor, explains these manmade chemicals were introduced to the world 85 years ago. [KGOU]
Last but not least: Happy 94th birthday Vera Miles! Best known for her role as Lila Crane in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, Miles got a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 1960. She was born on this day in 1929 in Boise City.

If you have any questions about the role of the Committee on Ministry or have concerns, praise, or ideas about the ministries of this church, you are welcome to reach out to a member of the CoM.
