A message from Sara Dickens-Trillo, Director of Operations, Mighty Writers El Futuro Kennett:
Through our weekly food distribution from Mighty Writers' center in Toughkenamon, we're also serving a large number of young adults 17 to 20 years old, who are here in this country by themselves. The majority of them are working in the mushroom industry to help support their families back home. All they can afford is to share a room with several other people (they have to pay per person, not per room). This leaves them with very limited funds to purchase the essentials they need to survive, especially during winter.
In addition to the food we're providing weekly, we want to help them with sleeping bags, blankets, personal hygiene items, jackets, shoes, and anything else they might need. These young adults don't have the life of a typical teenager or young adult but have the responsibilities of grown men, supporting their families in their countries of origin.
This Christmas we want to let them know that they are not alone, that the community where they live and work cares for them, and that we as a concerned community have their back. We're planning a dinner for them in collaboration with other organizations, and we would like to give them a Christmas gift as well. Please let me know if this is something you find in your heart to sponsor and support.
Please email Sara for more information about how you can help.
