Missions Highlight
CCLW has supported the Clover Area Assistance Center (CAAC) with both funding and volunteer time since it first started in 1983. Joan Bailey, a church member, saw the need and formed the Clover Caring Center after a Clover resident lost everything due to a house fire. At about the same time, the then River Hills Lions Club started the Good Neighbor Pantry in response to the textile industry moving their factories to China, which left many in the area without work and a paycheck. The two nonprofits merged in 1999 to become the Clover Area Assistance Center.
CAAC has been in operation now for over 20 years. It has become the central service agency within the Clover School District that those with needs turn to and those with resources trust to ensure their donations and efforts are optimally dispersed. Within our community exists the resources and compassion to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry, no senior citizen must choose between the purchase of medication or food and that those who are among the working poor are not left to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.
CAAC provides many services to those in need. A full food pantry provides monthly groceries for those who are able to come and shop and a wonderful crew of volunteers to deliver food to those who are home bound. Those that qualify can receive financial assistance for past due utilities, rent, prescriptions and other essential expenses. There are on-site classes in budgeting, goal setting and nutrition to name a few. Other services include vision care, hearing aids and dental care.
CCLW will always accept food donations and see that they get to CAAC. If you have questions about volunteering your time, contact them at 803-222-4837 or Kim Naumann 480-861-4690, our Missions Committee liaison.
