This week is just for the birds! I landed on the theme as a result of two different articles that came into the inbox on the same day - one noting the beginning of tundra swan and snow geese migration through Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and the other to be on the lookout for the return of nesting eagles at Presque Isle State Park. 

The masthead photo combines both the migration AND an eagle, although it requires a click to the pic to get to the eagle, soaring high above the whiteness. A terrific shot and a terrific sight, albeit we acknowledge that Middle Creek is not in fact a state park or forest. 

Birds are a delight. Unless you happen to believe that birds aren't real.

Things are starting to appear once again on the DCNR Calendar of events and our own so it's time to reinstate this feature of Fridays. Regular readers know that I usually like to give a look at the calendar two weeks out so you have a chance to prepare. So to get started, let's take a look at three festivals the first weekend of February and one for the second.

Lots of correct answers this week - "The Pale Blue Eye" was filmed at least at McConnells Mill and Moraine state parks. The Davis Hollow Cabin (shout out to the Friends of Davis Hollow Cabin who have worked so hard to keep it movie-ready!)

Not "torn between two lovers" (come on, you fellow children of the '70s), but tucked between two mountains is Nescopeck State Park. What two mountains?
