Battle Panda: Big Trouble in Panda City

A city full of Pandas.

There's a strong Asian, let's say Chinese flavor to this tale. Within the Panda city, Kai, a 'Battle Panda' in training has to take it upon himself to save the city. Apparently, the water supply is being cut off by the fierce tribe of Wolves who have built a dam upstream. Along the way Kai is accompanied by a Wise Old Owl who tries to dispense advice. Kai's cat sidekick Leo is there to help too.

For the most part this was a fun story to read. Definitely Young Adult material. Carlos Angela's artwork was very well ordered and simple to follow, his figures rendered with competence and believability. Joaquin's colors really brought home the YA flavor with its bright palette. The story takes place at night mostly, so there was a lot of rich solid Pthalo Blue for the sky, contrasting with some fire and warm colors of camp compounds.

Almost at his quest Kai befriends a Wolf female, who some how (?) aids him in his attempt in destroying the dam.

There was some fighting scenes (after all the title has 'battle' in it) that were well rendered. Not incendiary, but serviceable. A lot of people would find this comic entertaining enough to read, as well as future stories of Kai, the wolf girl, and Leo. More stories might help to differentiate it from Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda movie franchise. Farhan's panda is much more subtle and quietly rendered, it doesn't have the same pyrotechnic flavor.
